Minute Distribution @Ohio State

I agree but Perkins/Sandfort getting 11 minutes and Connor getting 21 is still ridiculous though
At this point Bro D Im just going to enjoy the ups and downs of Iowa bball. We played incredibly soft against Michigan, then came back and played our best game of the year yesterday. When Keegan is out of foul trouble we are a team to be dealt with. The length and athleticism of both Murray’s yesterday was a sight to see. Now I’ll get back to bitching when Kris gets 17 minutes against Sparty! Lol.

Not necessarily. Iowa needed the toughness and leadership that Connor brought yesterday. Every game and opponent are different, but Connor had a positive influence that significantly contributed to the win. With that said, a lot of games the team would be best served if he got Austin Ash minutes.

I’m wondering if Perkins would be more comfortable returning to his previous role of coming off the bench to provide defensive energy. It seems starting has impacted not only his offense but defense as well, and defense is probably his greatest strength. Sandfort has the potential to be some version of Kyle Korver, but he’s only a true freshman and often shows it. I have no problem with his minutes.

I thought Sandfort should have gotten some of Kris minutes or maybe a few of Kris and few of Rebraca.

If he hadn’t traveled first time he got ball, he may have played more. Fran had a group that was playing well and he stayed with them. Sand fort was on bench cheering his butt off. That shows he is team first, unlike some posters who like to whine about minutes played

Chris was huge defensively. Leading rebounder with 8 yesterday. Again, when the Murray brothers are out of foul trouble and Chris gets his minutes like yesterday we are tough to beat. Buckeyes had no answer for either of them. They dominated the game on both ends. This shows the potential of Chris next year. Look for him to average 14-15 pts a game and 6-7 boards.

No reason to believe that Kris Murray will be less productive than Keegan .... similarly explosive and athletic. I think he may be a better rebounder, just needs more minutes to get to the same level of production as Keegan IMO.

It’s certainly possible. That’s a big jump but obviously Keegan did it. He’s a stud.

I think he'll have a good rookie season, but 14-15 is a stretch, maybe 8-10 coming off the bench depending on where he lands.

What I like about this team is that several combinations have clicked against opponents this year. McC and staff have done a masterful job of coaching this year. IMHO they are over achieving, as usual, given the talent brought in. And the young role players on the team are really coming on.

Austin Ash minutes for Connor?

Wow. I know you hate Connor, but come on.

Anyone who knows anything about basketball knows that Connor brings a lot to this team

sorta like what Billy Taylor did when he was acting coach

Of note:

Kris 27 mins
Joe 22 mins
Ulis 17 mins

I hope that trend continues. Since rotations have frequently been a source of controversy with Fran, I think credit should be given where it’s due.
Agreed. IMO this was Fran's best job this year with respect to managing minutes and substitutions. It was also the first game this year that he played Kris extended minutes in a competitive game without being forced to because of fouls or injury. He didn't have a great offensive game today but his usual presence on the defensive end and on the boards was instrumental to the victory. He also didn't commit unnecessary fouls like he did against Michigan. I wouldn't call one game a trend but really hoping that this is something we'll see more of going forward.

Kris earned more minutes yesterday by staying out of foul trouble. Not his best offensive performance but he’s still a threat from anywhere on the floor. Does he deserve to start? That’s up in the air but it really doesn’t matter. If he’s playing well, and stays out of foul trouble, he’ll get his minutes.

Connor played really well yesterday. His defense and toughness were exactly what we needed and contributed greatly to the W.
Which is often the case. His one weakness is he's not another scorer in the lineup, which is fine because this team can score. What he brings in most games is toughness, high basketball IQ, and not worrying about getting his, things this team is in short supply of in many games.

Correct, yesterday was not the game to bitch about Connor's minutes. There are several of those opportunities, but that isn't it.
