Mitt Romney age

Even the AOCs of the world aren't socialists.

You are one of the few sane GOP posters around here, and you believing this is a perfect example of why the current GOP is so out of touch. Even the sane ones think Socialism is right around the corner.
It all comes down to the popularity of Bernie Sanders. I know he calls it Democratic Socialism….but many see through it.
What is really concerning is the % of Democrat voters that approve of socialism

To the extent that Democratic voters approve of "socialism" it is nothing more than an extension of our existing hybrid of socialistic government programs within a capalistic economic system. Public schools, Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security; these are all "socialism" but exist within our free market economy just fine. Some democrats want to extend education from about 15 years of free education to 17 years, or perhaps 19 years. And some want to reform our existing monster of a healthcare system - one that NOBODY would have designed from ground up - into something that frees people from making major life decisions based on health insurance.

None of this is frightening. What is frightening is that the overwhelming majority of GOP voting folks are absolutely okay - and in fact in favor of - overturning free and fair elections. It should scare any reasonable person. No GOP politician has a prayer of gaining the nomination if they do not a)bend the knee to Trump, and b)swear to the myth that our last election was stolen.

The GOP is now a cult, and a dangerous one.

Whenever I see "Socialism"... I have to laugh!

The USA is drowning in a "for-profit" social/economic model. The notion that Socialism is going to take over is hilarious to me. Even when all of the Baby Boomers are dead, you're still going to be waiting for Socialism to take over!

Define Socialism. Explain it in detail, please. Explain exactly how it is going to be implemented in the United States and how it will damage and totally derail the current processes. I want specifics, not platitudes.

After reading then civil war thread, I was going to post that a guy like Romney running in 2024 would be a good thing for the GOP but he could also get some Democrat votes.
The dude is 74….time flies

Romney would have been better in 2016 instead of challenging a sitting POTUS (Obama) in 2012. Except, Trump would have steamed rolled through him to, unfortunately.

As opposed to all of the chicken littles screaming about democracy being dead, right? I’m hearing way more about that than anything else. And it’s equally as dumb.

Honestly I think I might have voted for Romney over Clinton in ‘16. Back in ‘12 I didn’t think he was capable of standing up to the far right of his party. He has since proven me wrong.

Mitt was one of the biggest “misses” over the last decade from a political perspective. A true shame he didn’t make it instead of the guy from The Apprentice. Damn those binders of women.

Anything to the left of full out trumpism(which is fascism, whether they will admit it publicly or not) is socialism is what they have been indoctrinated by the fascist news networks.

Just wait to see what Democrats nominate after Biden. Your party is going socialist
Republicans have been hysterically warning voters of impending socialism since George McGovern ran for president. I guess that's proof to some that the hysterical pearl clutching worked.

Just watch. Even Trump will be considered a leftist in a few years. Rs are only going to get more extreme in the foreseeable future.

I disagree with this. All of this is a surge implemented by this love of, and cult following of Donald Trump. They're gullible, no doubt. But he knows which buttons to push, and he has no reservations pushing those buttons. He's placating his own ego. If there's no Donald Trump, these people have nothing.

You’re probably right, but I’m not totally positive. I saw Romney interviewed prior to the Iowa caucus in 2016. He was pretty much dumbfounded that none of the favorites were taking Trump head on. He said it was a big mistake to assume that he’d fade away or that the party would consolidate around someone else. I remember him saying that if everyone waits to take him head-on, it will be too late. And he said that being the person to take him head-on first would be the best way to separate yourself from all of the others.

Not saying it would have worked, but if there was ever a chance to stop Trump it was before New Hampshire. And the only person willing to take him on was Carly Fiorina, and she was a second tier candidate who almost made it to the top tier just by taking him on.

Romney recognized the risk early. Would it have made a difference? Maybe not, but it would have been nice to see someone try to stop him early.

There was no reason Romney couldn’t have been in the 2016 race from the start. I wanted him to.

But apparently there is now an unwritten rule that once you get your party’s nomination for President, if you lose you can‘t run again.

Trump invented none of the racism and hyper Christian nativism we see in todays GOP. He simply brought it out in the open. Trump could die tomorrow and the party will still be just as nuts. Rs will just glom onto the next extremist. I'm sure there are plenty just waiting for Trump to have a heart attack so they can grab the mega phone.

I spent the last hour on FaceTime saying goodbye to my grandmother before she died.
You have my condolences.
When you are up to it, define socialism for us and how the Dems will implement it.

It will start with the addition of Supreme Court judges so that they won’t lose court battles.

In socialist societies, citizens rely on the government for everything from food to healthcare. We are all in it equally to produce equally.
it starts with:
Free government health care
College will be totally free as well.
Tax rates will need to be at least 30% for under 60k and above that will be 50% to cover the cost of the health and education.
basic universal income
Major expansion of HUD housing
Expansion of food assistance.

For us rich folks on HROT, the only things that impact us at first is the govt healthcare and the high taxes. We are giving huge portions of our income so others can have the other free items.
For the ones consuming the free items, they don’t care about the tax rates because their expenses are covered by the govt.

I find it mind-boggling that those things frighten you.

Even the tax rates you mention are just pulled from your ass, and do not take into account about a half million dollars in lifetime savings you would have from free college and health insurance.

Yes, many favor expansion of existing systems. But they still favor free markets, capitalism, and respect for the result of free and fair elections. One cannot say the same for conservatives.

But, they have no leader like Donald Trump that can push their buttons, not on his level. No Republican can mimic Donald Trump anywhere near the level of the man himself.

Socialism you say....

Rs don't want people like Romney anymore. They would take morons like Joe Rogen over him.
Agree. Mitt Romney is a weak minded capitulator, a RINO, a pussy who never fought back after his 47% comment and his "case full of women" statement.

**** Mitt Romney. He'd probably choose Liz Cheney as a running mate. A bunch of dumb fuxk cavers tot he Democrat party.

Honestly, I think that Trump is replaceable. Look no further than Sarah Palin. She was completely unknown before 2008 but then quickly overshadowed McCain and became a darling of the party.

Trump's fame certainly helped, but I don't necessarily think that's a deal breaker for the Rs. They seem more than willing to elevate insane people to incredible heights.

I'm sure there's another kook(s) hanging around. But, give Trump his due. Donald Trump is one-of-a-kind. His whole life story is a one, long, unique freak show from just about every possible aspect.
