Mizzou protesters vs student reporter

all this protesting makes me want to watch PCU

I just fired off an email to that Click professor...the redhead. I feel good about it too.

Actually most of the time college kids just make idiots out of themselves like these jackasses. No virtue in that.
We disagree. Take that rediculous list above. Now the replacement communications professor could go over the proper way to write a demand list that might actually be taken seriously. This is just the sort of lesson they should learn before they go to negotiate for a job.

I feel like maybe something should be clarified: Private people can't restrict your freedom of speech nor your freedom of the press.

Carry on.
Doesn't the reporter have a right to be there? They may not be infringing on his 1st amendment right, but they were physically trying to force him to leave. If some KKK members came and tried to force the protesters to leave, would you just say "private citizens can't restrict your freedom to assemble"?

I didn't get why the lady kept walking towards him and saying "get out of my space".

Burn the whole thing down and start over.

A communications professor teaching about how to properly force a resignation! Awesome.

Huh?

These people "restricted" it via assault. Not violent assault, but they touched him without his permission and forced him to move. They violated his liberties and that is illegal.

Assault is illegal. "Violating his liberties" is, well, uh, not.

The Constitution limits government, not people.

That is why I felt it important to post, because of people like you spreading misinformation and ignorance in order to spur outrage.

I didn't say their actions were appropriate, I pointed out the above, that the Constitution doesn't limit private actors. Physically forcing someone by way of assault is, obviously, against the law. Certainly a professor at a public institution should exercise better judgment. I'm just pointing out that this isn't a state vs. people fight.

And, certainly, time/place/manner restrictions have been allowed, including limiting where the press can go. I usually disagree with those restrictions, and I do so here. But, the video does start with the protesters saying, "you can't push people to get better photos" and "if you are with the media you need to be behind the line" or things such as that. Also, "blocking" him is no such violation, especially by a private person. The idiot saying he didn't have a right to take his picture is probably wrong.

Yes, people are often idiots. Ignorance is rampant, and although our rights are incredibly important, ignorantly claiming rights that do not exist leads to further idiocy. See: The Tradition.

The white lady in the front is a communications professor. She has been identified and people are emailing her about her actions. She should understand the rights of free speech.
you would you think that.....

Sad days....

Here is the list of demands that the student group "Concerned Student 1950" put forth. I must admit I quit reading once I read that the president must acknowledge his white male privilege.

I. We demand that the University of Missouri System President, Tim Wolfe, writes a handwritten apology to the Concerned Student 1-9-5-0 demonstrators and holds a press conference in the Mizzou Student Center reading the letter. In the letter and at the press conference, Tim Wolfe must acknowledge his white male privilege, recognize that systems of oppression exist, and provide a verbal commitment to fulfilling Concerned Student 1-9-5-0 demands. We want Tim Wolfe to admit to his gross negligence, allowing his driver to hit one of the demonstrators, consenting to the physical violence of bystanders, and lastly refusing to intervene when Columbia Police Department used excessive force with demonstrators.

II. We demand the immediate removal of Tim Wolfe as UM system president. After his removal a new amendment to UM system policies must be established to have all future UM system president and Chancellor positions be selected by a collective of students, staff, and faculty of diverse backgrounds.

III. We demand that the University of Missouri meets the Legion of Black Collegians' demands that were presented in 1969 for the betterment of the black community.

IV. We demand that the University of Missouri creates and enforces comprehensive racial awareness and inclusion curriculum throughout all campus departments and units, mandatory for all students, faculty, staff, and administration. This curriculum must be vetted, maintained, and overseen by a board comprised of students, staff, and faculty of color.

V. We demand that by the academic year 2017-2018, the University of Missouri increases the percentage of black faculty and staff campus-wide to 10%.

VI. We demand that the University of Missouri composes a strategic 10 year plan by May 1, 2016 that will increase retention rates for marginalized students, sustain diversity curriculum and training, and promote a more safe and inclusive campus.

VII. We demand that the University of Missouri increases funding and resources for the University of Missouri Counseling Center for the purpose of hiring additional mental health professionals — particularly those of color, boosting mental health outreach and programming across campus, increasing campus-wide awareness and visibility of the counseling center, and reducing lengthy wait times for prospective clients.

VIII. We demand that the University of Missouri increases funding, resources, and personnel for the social justices centers on campus for the purpose of hiring additional professionals, particularly those of color, boosting outreach and programming across campus, and increasing campus-wide awareness and visibility.

That all seems fair for everyone. You racist, Chucky?

So the asian guy is getting the business about not photographing anybody while at the same time the jerks complaining that he's photographing them are using their cellphones to photograph him. OK. Stupid is stupid.

The white chick in the glasses and the hat steps into his "personal space" and complains that he's in her "personal space". Again, stupid is stupid.

Then they all walk forward and say that they "have the right to walk forward" to prove a point.

What a bunch of idiots.

In the mean time, there are 10 other photographers being left alone. Seems as though those white and black progressives have a problem with asian dudes. I'd complain if I were him.

They should hold one of these every few years. People need to practice fighting the system. You would think cons would be tickled to watch liberal academia feed on itself, but their love for order blinds them from what should be entertainment. Meanwhile Libs embrace the chaos as an opportunity for betterment which just blows the minds of authority seeking cons.

This is great. Two days ago she was asking for media to come cover the story. Now she is trying to have reporters forcibly removed.

Typical of an academic putting their lifelong obsessions ahead of the business of educating our university students. It's natural to be somewhat "off" when you devote so much time and energy to a particular passion and people like that are often educated beyond their intellectual capacity. Melissa Click would fit that description

Wrong. Our laws are based on the principle of preserving our liberties. The reason we outlaw such things is because they violate the liberties of others. Your liberty to swing your fist around ends where my nose begins. Basic Libertarianism 101.

A rebellion by social media against established media. This should make for a good fight.

taking a whole team hostage and threatening to disrupt a football season should get you kicked off the football team

Liberals being liberals, really not that shocking. I just wonder, do they watch this video of themselves and think, "holy shit what the hell is wrong with me?", or do they think this is normal acceptable behavior?

I saw a large majority of whites and Asians in that vid, not surprising for a college campus

Liberals= fight the system, but also have the government control all aspects of life.

see, the black lives matter thing IS THE SYTEM and is the government, so fighting against this crap is what everyone should be doing

Uh, what? You posted all of that to show that assault is a crime? You said they were violating his freedom of the press. That is the ignorance that needed corrected.

The motivation for the assault was to prevent him from exercising his freedom to report on the incident. And the crowd removing him from the area was doing so at the direction of a state employee.

I would bet a lawyer could write a pretty good civil rights lawsuit against the university and the faculty members who were apparently leading this protest.
