We need these programs to get back on track and help spread the talent around rather than PSU getting it all. It's "fun" to dog on these guys when their down but it's the truth. It's just too easy right now for Cael to do what he's doing.

At this point I can say with confidence, we are not going to be able to out recruit PSU as long as he's there, unless something negative happens (cue boys in a shower, actually worse than that as the football team is back on track like nothing happened).

Winning every year by a landslide is NOT good for the sport if you ask me.

Go Hawks!

I agree to some extent. I have said on this board before that if we are fighting over recruits with ISU than I don't much like our chances of catching up with PSU.

With that said, that was before they got Dresser(who I am both surprised by and happy for!). I DO think we will now be butting heads with ISU more than in the past to your point. Dresser will have a far(at least further) reaching recruiting abilities that I think Eggum will be lacking for a while.

I don't think we will be butting heads "More" with Iowa State than what we have been. Actually - They have been recruiting pretty darn good. Kevin Jackson did pretty decent in that regard. His problem was developing them once they got there. I believe (too lazy to confirm) but didn't ISU actually get ranked 1 spot higher in recruiting class rank than Iowa did this past year? I am not afraid of Kevin Dresser's recruiting - I am afraid of his development of his wrestlers....

I thought Minnesota did pretty well this year considering all of the offseason turmoil and having 2 fargo champs leave midseason. I wouldn't worry too much about them getting back on track.

I suspect Dresser will have ISU back in the top 10 in 2-3 years. It doesn't take as long to turn things around as some people would suggest, and the cupboard is not bare there.

The only people that think it takes a long time to turn a wrestling program around are KJ supporters.

In terms of MN and ISU, I don't see them pulling many recruits away from PSU. Does anyone know if Zadick and St. John are still going to be on Dresser's staff at ISU? They could speak to ISU recruits about the inner-workings of Iowa and Brands and spin it to a recruit however they see fit. I think ISU will be a thorn in our side relatively soon in terms of recruiting.

Maryland, Rutgers, and Pitt are in the middle of the recruiting mecca and haven't made a dent on the PSU. If each of those three grabbed one of PSU's next big recruits that would be great. I'm not putting Michigan in there though, if they got one of PSU's next big recruits that would pretty well fill out a heck of lineup.

Several posts on the Clone forum about drug use/abuse on this last Clone team. If some, or any, of that is remotely true... expect a mass exodus from the current roster.

I'm not completely sure Dresser knows what he's facing at ISU. If true... it really brings into question the future of the Paulsens getting hired into another program.

What a freaking mess.

how does this reflect poorly on the Paulsens? They were in charge for like three weeks

If, and that's a big if to those outside the program that have no idea, there was a drug problem with the athletes... you will never convince me how coaches would not have known about it. Even a hint of something would be hard to hide.

That's how the Paulsens might share some responsibility for problems in the room. They were a major part of the staff, as many ISU fans claim that KJ didn't play a big part in the day to day activities.

That's the same argument I had with the Xanax issue at Minny. No way in hell Eggs and the other assts didn't know.

Didn't one of the Paulsens schedule his wedding DURING wrestling season several years ago? That's about all you need to know about them, IMHO.

Drug scandal at ISU? I didn't notice any wrestlers behaving erratically.

They may be nice guys. They had success as wrestlers. They even had a National champion or two.

But to an objective fan outside the program, I doubt KD keeps them and I doubt other programs will be beating their doors down to get them into other programs. They certainly had their share of wrestlers regress(Witherspoon/others) and I think Jackson was merely too lazy to replace them.

I do think they should be lauded for pushing the Cyclones to a top 60 finish this season.

Pretty sure one poster threw it out there- not saying it is true or not, but saying "several posts" just makes your agenda even more clear.

I am fine with Dresser completely turning over the staff, but would be ok with him keeping any current staff. I don't deny that the KJ era went out in a dumpster fire, but I think Dresser has the experience and resources to get things back on track.

We will be able to get some idea in the coming weeks/months with the current roster and who might leave the program. If it's some guys that started this season, I'd say there might be fire where there's smoke.

Not their fault. KJ basically let his big recruits do whatever they wanted. They were in charge for 3 weeks and immediately booted PD3.

And is anyone actually surprised they have a "gang attitude and drugs?" KJ recruited talent, not talent that wanted to work hard. Kids who go to college without real goals who are from a rough area will get into trouble.

And yet it took 6-7 years for him to get the boot!

Dresser is starting from ground zero.

I personally think it's going to take more than Kevin Dresser to get the ISU program back near the top.

VT is a very good team but it consists of 98% East Coast kids.

I doubt he will pull very many of those kids to Ames Iowa. So that means he has to rub elbows with the Midwest Boys, and we know how difficult that is.

What is the prediction for season ending NCAA championship points for Iowa and MN in the 17/18 season? Would guess both are 6-8th place range.
Ask us in December when everyone knows what the starting lineup looks like. Between transfers/redshirt/injuries and such it's a wild guess right now.

Should be a close finish next year between Iowa and Minnesota. Agreed original poster?
If Stoll is able to maintain his health next season I expect Iowa to battle OSU for 3rd/4th.
I think 149-184 + 285 will AA. Could also see meaningful point production from Laux-125, Happel-133, and Turk-141. I'm sure Holloway can equal Wilckes point production from this year, if not improve on it if he's back at 197 instead of Hwt.

I'm really looking forward to following the progression of our young team next season.

I think Minne will get 2-4 AA's next season. Lizak, McKee, Thorn, Short, and Wanzek are probably the top 5 guys on the team next year correct?

We used to have a Gopher poster here, I think his screen name was Grip6/Crapper6/Groper6 or something like that. Based on his projected Minnesota lineup after Pharr and Kroells graduated and McKee redshirting... Minny isn't a top 10 program next season. Iowa will be top ten even in a major rebuilding year.

You can fill in the rest of the blanks!

I can see him having at least Nebraska-type success. Nebby does well without many superstars from instate.

Do you get as many points from the Wilke-Holloway-Stoll combination as Brooks+Wilke this year?

How do you replace Gilman+Clark? I think (of course my knowledge is limited) that Laux, Happel, Turk, Marinelli, and Young together can better the points from one of Gilman/Clark, but not by much. Sorenson and Kemmerer will remain the same. My way too early prediction is that you lose 12-14 points from this year.

Correct me!

Apparently it hasn't taken Dresser too long to figure out how gullible the fan base is..
Read a post on CF that he told boosters he was a Clone fan that wrestled at Iowa.

Totally believable. That must be why his staff will be mostly ex Hawks.

Sounds like a guy that will be easy to dislike. VT might be better without him.

This is one of the stupidest posts I've read on here. Get some class minion.
