1. Sebastian Castro is the B1G defensive player of the week after a strong overall performance, punctuated by the pick-six:

Diving more into that play this week — will be talking with some other defenders about it tomorrow.

2. Rashad Godfrey Jr. (2024 CB, committed in July) is still receiving offers, with Oregon State joining Louisville and KSU last week. This is a bit par for the course when Iowa's on prospects, but it might mean something that Rashad's posting the offers. (Or it might mean nothing. They're kids, remember.)

3. In other opponent news, Utah State beat Idaho State 78-28 last week, while Iowa's W3 foe Western Michigan lost 48-7 to Syracuse. I'm expecting the Broncos to pose the least threat of Iowa's three non-conference games this season, and the early line going from -24.5 to -28 already would seem to bear that out. But we've seen Iowa let worse teams than this hang around the last few years, so I don't think there'll be much relaxation in IC in game prep.

4. Cade McNamara was all smiles after the ISU game, and a big part of that was getting through four quarters with his leg feeling good (and obviously a W). Will be checking on what that does for his recovery process timeline.

5. On the Mel Tucker situation — obviously the school needs to complete a Title IX investigation, the process exists for a reason. But if the reports are accurate (and the corroboration provided seems to indicate so), that's some absolutely horrendous judgment by Tucker, and an artless attempt to smear Brenda. I've been fortunate enough to know people who have worked directly with her over the years, and I've never heard even a private unkind word about her. No room for behavior like that in the Big Ten — or in any conference that prides basic ethics over on-field results.

5a. Mel Tucker's on-field results weren't all that great to begin with, either.

6. Did anyone go to the Isbell show at Hancher on Friday night? Have heard he put on an absolute banger (I've seen him live 5-6 times, but it's been a few years so I'm now back to overdue). Any other shows in central or eastern Iowa coming up you all are excited for?
