Donald J. Trump likes to brag that he leads his Republican rivals in every poll, but a new poll on Monday showed him with company at the top of the field.

According to a survey of likely Republican Iowa caucusgoers from Monmouth University, Ben Carson is tied with Mr. Trump in Iowa. The poll marks the first time in more than a month that the billionaire tycoon was not leading a poll in one of the first four states to hold nominating contests.

Mr. Trump and Mr. Carson were deadlocked with the support of 23 percent of the Iowans who were polled. Carly Fiorina, Senator Ted Cruz of Texas and Gov. Scott Walker of Wisconsin made up the next tier of candidates.

The poll shows the growing appetite for political outsiders in Iowa and could spell trouble for more traditional candidates who were counting on the state to propel them to the nomination. Mr. Walker has seen his prospects in Iowa dampen substantially in recent weeks and candidates such as former Gov. Mike Huckabee of Arkansas and former Senator Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania, who were once favorites in the state, are barely registering with voters.

The Monmouth poll follows a survey from The Des Moines Register over the weekend that showed Mr. Trump leading in the state, but revealed that Mr. Carson is gaining ground.

Monday’s poll did show that Mr. Carson is leading Mr. Trump with people who consider themselves to be “very conservative,” with evangelical Christians, and with women.

“After more than a month of Trump winning virtually every Republican demographic group, we’ve finally got a little variation in voting blocs to talk about,” said Patrick Murray, director of the independent Monmouth University Polling Institute.

Monmouth’s poll of 405 Republicans had a margin of sampling error is plus or minus 5 percentage points.

The GOP claims that if only they could get rid of Trump, people would respect them again. This poll suggests otherwise. Two clowns running one and two. How much more worse can it get for the Republicans?

That's fine if you feel these two are clowns I can understand that. The fact you can't see that Hillary is also a "clown" removes any drop of credibility you may have still had.

Are you really trying to compare a former First Lady, former US Senator, and former Secretary of State to two men who have never held office and gain popularity by trying to turn the election into entertainment? I don't think you understand what a clown is.

Exactly my point. We know already what a power hungry snake she is already and how she will lie, cheat and steal her way into power. We don't know yet whether Carson and Trump will be awful as well. I'm sure they will probably be terrible but haven't proven it yet like Hillary has.

Trump is a accused rapist who has filed for bankruptcy more than any other US company in the last 30 years. You don't think it's an absolute joke that a guy like this is leading the GOP?

What do you have on Hillary? Emails? Let's see here...Emails versus rape. Which one is worse? Let me think...

Not sure why you are making this Hillary vs. Trump with me. Nowhere in my posting history have I suggested Trump would be a good president. I will clarify so even you can understand. I don't think Hillary or Trump will make a good president. Both are slimy human beings with one interested in power at any cost and the other enamored with fame and attention.

No, you're just suggesting that Hillary is anywhere comparable to Trump.

Did you just really say that you don't know if Donald Trump is a snake oil salesman? And you have the balls to call out Huey for being dishonest. It's not like The Donald just fell into our laps. He's been a pretty large figure in the US for 20+ years. I've never heard him described as an honest, caring man before. First time for everything I guess.

Accused is used a lot in this thread.(accused e-mail scandal, accused rapist etc.)

I think someone needs to post the definition of accused.

No I said we don't know if he will be a lousy politician like Hillary.

I have noticed that Donald and Hillary are about the same age, height and weight.(hair color...) Also, you never see them together.

I don't think that is a coincidence....

So you're of the opinion that Trump isn't a "power hungry snake" that has "lied, cheated, or stole" his way into power? You assume he won't treat the presidency like he's treated his businesses? That is a pretty naive view to have of him in my opinion.

Sadly this is a more educated response than hawkeye54545 has given in this thread.

OiT needs to find out the real truth from Alex Jones and get back to us.

My sister, Janet, and I most certainly do not.

Seriously, are you mentally challenged? At no point have I said anything remotely positive about Trump. Unfortunately, to deflect and defend all things Hillary you try to spin the best you can.

Here just for you Fred. Trump is a slimy human being. In no way, shape, or form do I want him to be the next president. HOWEVER, that does not change the fact that Hillary is also a slimy human being. Perhaps more than Trump because of her former positions but that point is debatable.

Finally!!! Jesus took you long enough. Hillary and Trump are cut from the same cloth of "me first, everyone else second". That won't change because Trump is going from the private sector to the public sector. Only the most partisan of people would think otherwise. Glad we see it the same way.

That was my point the entire time. I truly wanted to throw my phone.

You should learn to communicate your thoughts better. Also, you may want to look into Anger Management if this board makes you angry to the point of throwing things (serious).
