Western NC was smacked by over 29” of rain by Helene in basically one day, which is over a third of typical yearly rainfall in many areas.
The bitch is that most of the precip ran off, rather than soaking in. There has been less than a half inch of precip in the next month.
This is typical fire season for us, with leaf fall always adding to the danger. The massive amount of debris from downed trees, ruined homes and structures, and lack of garbage services has us at a critical danger point currently.
Wildfire danger is at a bad number…
