I'm Indian American and man I'll tell you what. Most American cuisine is sketch but a good fried tenderloin is a thing of beauty. Those who disagree are treasonous traitors and belong in Tehran.
Prove you aren't from Tehran, what are the ideal toppings for such a beauteous sandwich?

A Midwest staple because the Midwest was settled by Germans immigrants who grew up eating them at home:

This guy does short video reviews of tenderloin sandwiches from all 99 Iowa counties.

Quit eating at gas stations.
Lol. I’ve never had a gas station tenderloin. My grandma used to make them, not sure where she got them from, but they were gross and chewy as leather. For that reason I never ordered them from anywhere else. I’m vegan now, so I guess I’ll never know if there is such a thing as a good tenderloin.

Go to Shakespeare’s in Iowa City. Light breading, tender loin, delish. @lucas80 can confirm.

That said, they’re not my favorite. I like them flattened AF and big-as-my-head crispy goodness.
That is a tasty tenderloin at Shakes.

did your grandma trim the fat from the tenderloin and then flatten with a mallet and roller? to about 1/2 inch

I ask because my grandma made "steak sandwiches" that were just a cut of ribeye between buns. pretty gnarly to eat. nothing like a Philly steak sandwich.

Speare's was always a favorite place in the latter college years and our softball team sponsor. They have fantastic bar grub

They, and Jon's in Tiffin, are the best loin in the area imo.

Jon's in Tiffin
Used to stop there on my way fishing, them and old Rookies in North Liberty had some of the best chicken strips I have ever eaten. Have not tried the Tenderloin there, will now when I'm out that way.
