I wonder what is happening to al the women and children. Seems like it would be more balanced?

Obama hopes beyond hope they can bring their muslim arses around to voting for a woman, or he's gonna explain all this to biden, and hope he changes his mind, no way they vote for sanders

This doesn't concern you? For being a "feeling progressive" you sure don't give a shit about the real problems in the world.

I'm pretty sure ciggy's only problem is finding ways to defend Obama at all times.

Fwiw I think the men are sometimes making the dangerous trek first and then if it is worth it they can get the families coming next. They aren't guaranteed to live on the way and don't have the information we do.

It's because many families are sending the oldest son/father ect ahead AND many of the "Syrian refugees" aren't actually from Syria but from Egypt/Morocco/Sudan ect ect.......(not really refugees, just looking for a better life)

I know of an oldest son that was sent to Germany from Syria. He made it fine. He is learning German. Plans to get an apartment soon.

There are huge grey areas when it comes to this whole refugee crisis. There are stories such as yours (The wife and I have become acquainted with a Syrian family that came in last year, Father is a Doctor...both kids going to the grundschule (grade school) and doing well. Kids are pretty amazing actually, have basically learned German in less than a year)

There are also many here in Germany that really aren't refugees but have slipped in on the refugees coat tails (folks from all over the middle east, Northern Africa and even old eastern bloc European countries)

Almost all the Germans I'm acquainted with just want the migrants to be screened and their influx controlled. The government initially said 800,000 but the number looks to be closer to 2 million when all is said and done and many Germans are asking "How do we integrate this many" and "How do we pay for this" and "Where do we house them".

These are legit questions and I think the German government made a critical error in allowing a basically unfettered flow of refugees/migrants.

Thanks for the rational discussion of this issue, which, like most, is more complex then most of the discussion around it tends to be. And yes, I'm very much guilty of contributing to the lack of complexity of the discussion of this topic and many others on here.

That's the problem with this board and politics in general...no grey areas allowed. No nuance in an argument....it's either black/white or right/wrong.

Honestly, there are good, factual arguments on both sides in regards to the refugees....just have to find that happy median.

How dare you come here and try to inject logic and reason!! This board is for those of us that are opinionated and scoff at discourse damn it!!

So far, half of the Syrian refugees accepted into the United States, officials say, have been children, and another quarter are over 60 years old. Roughly half are female, and many of those applying from abroad are multigenerational families, often with the primary breadwinner missing. About 2 percent are single males of combat age.

Bon apetit!

Wait, wait, wait - OBama himself said "ISIS is contained". If so then the refugees can go back home, no? I mean Obama stated and stands by his statement of ISIS being contained. Then there is no need for refugees here or in EU, they can go back to their home and make it better than it was.

America's enemies within: How nearly SEVENTY have been arrested in America over ISIS plots in the last 18 months - including refugees who had been given safe haven but 'turned to terror'

US authorities have charged at least 66 men and women with ISIS-related terror plots on American soil – including a handful of refugees, Daily Mail Online can reveal.

The terror group has set its sights on Washington, D.C. as it vows to further infiltrate the West and ramp up its blood-soaked offensive.

President Obama insists that 'slamming the door' on Syrian refugees fleeing ISIS would be a betrayal of American values.

But 34 governors are refusing to take in any more, in case jihadi fighters slip into their states and repeat the carnage of Paris.

Analysis by Daily Mail Online reveals that a handful of foiled plots have already involved immigrants accused of harboring sympathy for ISIS.

Then by all means explain what "contained" means in Obama's own words:

Obama: "Well, no, I don't think they're gaining strength. What is true is that from the start, our goal has been first to contain, and we have contained them. They have not gained ground in Iraq. And in Syria they'll come in, they'll leave. But you don't see this systematic march by ISIL across the terrain. What we have not yet been able to do is to completely decapitate their command and control structures. We've made some progress in trying to reduce the flow of foreign fighters."

Rhodes said that when Obama said ISIS was contained, he "was responding very specifically to the geographic expansion of ISIL in Iraq and Syria."

Looking back at Obama’s interview where he made this comment, it is quite clear that it’s within a narrowly defined scope: ISIS’s territorial expansion in Iraq and Syria. He did not rule out the potential for a terrorist attack, and he also made it clear that the United States’ anti-ISIS efforts are a work in progress.

So with that being right from the horses mouth - The expansion of ISIL (Obama's terminology) in Syria is contained.

You just did. Good job. Now see if you can figure out why people might not be able to go home yet. Read the parts you bolded really well.

ISIL is contained, the refugees don't have to hop the pond to be safe. They can be safe in other areas of Syria or Iraq. Did you read it - "this is not a march across the terrain".

How difficult is it for you to understand that these people are running in terror for their lives? You think they want to leave their homeland with nothing but the clothes on their back? They're running from war and death and you want to turn them away because you're scared of them because they're different than you. That's pathetic and weak and un-American.

I apologize...I thought you said, "Then there is no need for refugees here or in EU, they can go back to their home and make it better than it was".

Oh...you did.

Well...see...that's the thing. You lump all of one group together because some are terrorists, but you don't do it in other cases. Let's try to practice consistency.
What walks, talks, swims, flies like a duck? It's not a horse or a fish.

Cute gif.

I did say there is no need for refugees here or in EU if what Obama said is true. Or are you agreeing that he lied and misused the word "contained"?

Well, if you read the underline portion and clearly saw that Obama was specifically talking about ISIS in Iraq and Syria, then why are you pretending that he meant ISIS everywhere else?
Underline portion said 2% of those entering the US are of combat age - do you happen to know how old ISIS trains? They start them very young... and if you believe it is only men that do this work, I give you the female bomber in France as proof.

At this point I have no idea what you're even talking about. What does ISIS training ages have to do with containment areas?

YOur thought process is shakey. I turn them away until proven safe, if they are cleared by strict security checks (not an open door policy) I will feel much better. If you wish to openly take them without due diligence then shame on you for not caring about your family, friends, fellow Americans first.

There were 2 underlined sections... one for age and one for region. So speaking to the 2nd underlined section of the answer - they are contained to a region of Syria and Iraq. Much like heavy gang activity is contained to LA, Chicago... there are pockets and there are places to live.

Not sure why I get into these "discussions" with you, waste of time. YOu have a set of ideals as do I, different and correct in our own minds. Have a good day.

You said they can go home. You were wrong. You either don't know or don't care what "contained" means. Just let it drop - there's no fixing this for you.
