More Tesla problems?

Musk put in place supermajority voting rules that mean he is effectively insulated from board activists.

Interesting, but not surprising. Hadn't heard that before.

With all the late Q1 pushback, early Q1 would need to carry the qtr, gonna be interesting but also interesting on how a loss will be spun to be a good thing.

As someone who loves to pylon (deliberate) Elon Musk, all one needs to do is look at sales figures for the Dodge Hornet to see that there is at least one vehicle that is much, much worse. The Cybertruck at least had a decent opening gun.

The Dodge Hornet was a vehicle nobody asked for, did nothing remotely good, looks unremarkable in all respects - and rewarded all that with absolutely horrific sales. It has never, not once, actually sold even "merely slowly" - it's been terrible sales-wise at ALL times.

Stellantis will probably never actually sell all of them - most will find their way into rental fleets or go to auction. And it's an overstatement to state they can't give them away - but it ain't far from that being factually true.
I’d never seen one of these. Doesn’t look that bad but sounds like reliability is awful.

I see one here and there. That's the thing though - it debuted in 2023 and I rarely see them.

They've sold per Wikipedia a little over 30,000 worldwide the first 2 years, but you dig into how many of these have been piled up on lots ever since its release...they almost always have more than a year's stock on hand.

Ideally, a vehicle should have about 90 days stock on hand at the very most. This is the 3rd year, and they still can't sell them, even by discounting the hell out of them.

As for reliability, it's a Stellantis product - that's all that needs to be said.

I had a Jeep Grand Cherokee about 25 years ago that was one of my favorite vehicles ever. Drove it for 10 years, 180,000 miles until I sold it.

I would not buy that vehicle today.

Yep, very different vehicle.....

American manufacturing isn't what it used to be. Easy to see why someone who is stuck in the 1960s mentality doesn't understand this.

Read some info on this today. This truck has some possibilities if they keep it stupid simple (therefore inexpensive).

It's the add-ons that will increase the costs.

But anyone looking for a bare-bones truck as a fleet vehicle for their construction, handyman, landscape, irrigation company - that's a damn cheap vehicle that will cost 1/8th or less for fuel compared to gas. Not going to replace trucks needed for heavier hauling or towing, but you can buy 3 of them for the cost of one of those at this price....

Exactly, options. Not everyone needs a pickup for 80k. Ford Ranger vs Ford 350 have different users and different use cases.

Tesla FSD will be 100% safe, once we're no longer able to legally track ANY accidents caused by Tesla FSD...

SIAP

Looks like they are facing a class action on their vehicles not having accurate odometers that then helps them to both get out of warranty work and have the added benefit of inflating miles traveled between charges. If they truly did not put classic odometer in cars and have instead what they describe here, it is shady as **** if always over estimating…

“According to the claims in the lawsuit, Tesla’s odometer system estimates mileage using predictive algorithms that factor in energy consumption and driver behavior, unlike traditional odometers that rely on physical distance measurement. The lawsuit argues that Tesla assigns lower efficiency values to aggressive driving — such as rapid acceleration — causing the system to report inflated distances.

These discrepancies, the complaint alleges, can artificially accelerate depreciation, force early warranty expiration, and pressure owners into purchasing extended warranties.

The lawsuit claims that Tesla’s algorithmic approach can inflate mileage readings, and that “Tesla knowingly overstates the distances traveled in Tesla vehicles,” calling the practice a calculated effort to reduce warranty-related costs and increase profit margins.

Tesla has not publicly commented on the lawsuit, and none of the claims have been verified in court.“

TL: DR

Guy tests 5 different vehicles. Cannot replicate the claim.

Possibly the plaintiff swapped 22 wheels, for 19 inch wheels, and didnt reset the setting to 19 inches.

Also there is a difference between when you search for a destination(as the crow flies) and when you select it (road distance).

I will chalk this claim up to human stupidity and am sure OP will provide us an update when this frivolous case is tossed from court.

Weird.

We were told the new Model Y was going to boost sales in April...

Tesla bulls attribute depressed demand to the new Model Y changeover, which also resulted in a production slowdown. However, the EV maker began deliveries of the new Model Y, although only for the all-wheel drive version, in European regions like Germany in March. Whether those deliveries ramped up to a higher volume is unclear at this point. But what is clear is that the new Model Y is available for delivery.

April YoY numbers-
Spain: -36%
Germany: -46%
Belgium: -55%
France: -59%
UK: -62%
Denmark: -67%
Netherlands: -74%
Sweden: -81%
Maybe Russia is pickin' up all the slack...

How good are those robots to begin with? Seen some of his expo functions. The robots still had to be remote controlled. Or is this a different sector.
The robots were essentially "wireless puppets", that were mimicking motions of a wired-up human in an adjacent room.

Maybe you could "scale" that for some types of operations, but not all that much.
Humans have tactile "feel" for things they are contacting and doing. Unless Tesla has come up with some tactile-skin they can coat their robot hands with, it's going to be a bit of a challenge to take over things humans do.

Well I didn’t know if they had a different sector of robots. Perhaps for manufacturing

Keep track of incentives being offered as well. Currently offering 0.0% APR for model 3 and 1.9% on the newly refreshed, best selling, model Y.

More Tesla problems on delivering what they promise…

Translation: We borrowed your money for 6 months for 0% interest to you. Thanks, Rubes!!!

Could be a game changer in the EV truck market. Color me interested.

Tesla's China-made vehicle sales dropped sharply in April, bucking the trend of strong growth among major Chinese EV competitors, according to CNEVPOST.

According to the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA), Tesla sold 58,459 vehicles last month (including exports), down 5.96% year-over-year and 25.84% from March’s 78,828 units. From January to April, Tesla China's total sales fell 18.31% year-over-year to 231,213 units.

The report says that even in the UK, where battery electric vehicle (BEV) registrations rose 8.1%, Tesla’s sales plummeted 62%, registering only 512 vehicles out of more than 24,000 BEVs sold.

Despite narratives that Tesla is more than a car company, failed ventures into solar, trucks, and batteries reinforce the fact that vehicle sales remain its core business. Even longtime Tesla bulls are beginning to express concern, noting that without a rebound in sales, particularly in key markets like China and Europe, investor confidence will continue to erode.

Johnson says numbers out of China and Europe are far below expectations and raise serious doubts about Tesla’s ability to meet even conservative delivery estimates. The report concludes that unless Tesla can rapidly turn around its auto business, especially as hype around events like the June 1 robotaxi announcement fades, the stock could be poised for a substantial downward revaluation.

We're pretty much in a race to see what's gonna fall faster:

  • European and Chinese Tesla Sales numbers
    OR
  • Blown up chunks of the next Starship launch
