Why are they more excited now than in recent years when they’ve won 10 games? They’re not going to win 10 games this year. I thought wins were the only thing that matters. Why doesn’t the team like winning?
Because they're a development program. They're not in the business to win games.
Iowa always has had a competent DC and STC.
NOW, they have a competent OC. I think that is where the excitement is coming from that Dochterman is talking about. FINALLY, in all 3 aspects (offense, defense, special teams), Iowa has the right person leading the way.

The school will start sharing revenue next year, up to $ 20 million annually. Obviously, not all of that is going to football, but it will make a big difference as they build teams in the future. SWARM will certainly augment those payments.
Indiana proved this year that adding 31 transfers can result in a speedy turnaround. It is the new reality in college football and Iowa (along with all BIG teams) is positioned well to succeed.

Even so, why would this someone close to the program not care about winning? I thought wins were what matters.

I hope so too, but I think it’s a tough sell, given their initial ROI in football.
