The actual quote from Hutton about Moss was that he is " a freak...a freak of nature..." who is going to "bring a lot of athleticism" to the team. Nice words from a teammate who is also pretty athletic! As of now, he really is the mystery man of this recruiting class. I've heard Hutton refer to him as "a beast," so given Brandon's demeanor, that has to be worth something.
He will be in Iowa City on August 19.Any news on him? Is he positively gonna be here this fall? Haven't heard anything lately.
I'm hoping that changes with him not being the only inner city guy on the team. He'll have support.I worry about his academic issues, those are are the type of players that don't stick around UI very long.
As I understand it Moss was way behind just a year ago. It was one reason schools didn't offer after he blew up in AAU ball. However, he's worked extremely hard to get caught up.
Meaning, will he become a household name?Awesome, to anyone that has seen him play could there be any comparisons to Ray Thompson be made?
Maybe it's just my hope, but I swear I remember reading the academic issues were not necessarily a reflection of him being a poor student, but more the fact that he transferred schools and things didn't line up correctly. Either way, I'm sure he'll have plenty of support from tutors, advisors and teammates once on campus. Would have been nice to get a class or two out of the way this summer, but I think he'll be fine once he's here.As I understand it Moss was way behind just a year ago. Hopefully Moss will be at Iowa a little longer than Ray Thompson was able to play.Meaning, will he become a household name?

I've read some interviews with him where he acknowledged not taking school very seriously early on and not being the most mature kid. Transferring from Lincoln-Way East in Frankfort between his sophomore and junior years to Simeon in the Public League put him a bit behind in a couple of aspects.Yeah, hopefully the kid does well. I just know UI isn't like some others schools, we actually make our athletes be students first, with no breaks. No African American studies courses. If he did have a problem with academics in the Chicago system, he is REALLY going to struggle here. He does have great people around him, which helps. Still, have seen this before, students who struggle with academics in HS don't tend to make it at the UI. The Woody's, and Gesell's of this world, do.
Hoping for the best though, the kid does have a particular set of skills.
I think a RS would be a great move. We have plenty of depth this year and that extra time can really help him set a firm academic foundation. Plus, he was a late bloomer physically as well, more time is always good.True a red shirt year might definitely be good for moss, may be difficult selling him on it though, or the fans for that matter.

I'm sorry to burst your bubble here, but Iowa most definitely does have African American studies courses. They're not necessarily joke courses, but I don't know why you would throw out such a false statement.
And we most definitely let our athletes have breaks as students.
I remember Ray Thompson and the promise he showed on the team, then boom, he was gone. Fran is a family man so I hope he keeps tabs on him like he would on one of his own.True a red shirt year might definitely be good for moss, may be difficult selling him on it though, or the fans for that matter.
Isaiah does have a great family support system. He is a determined, hard-working young man who will do well at Iowa, both in basketball and academics.I've read some interviews with him where he acknowledged not taking school very seriously early on and not being the most mature kid. As a soph at Lincoln-Way Moss was the go-to guy, but at Simeon he was just a role player as a junior; hard for a lot of kids to handle. I think he's serious about his academics now. It sounds like he's got a couple of good parents who've helped him keep his head straight.
Ray Thompson.....could have been.....one of the greatest Hawkeyes of all.....ALL.....time. He didn't show promise. He showed he belonged from the very beginning. It makes my blood boil a little to have to remember this. Hunter Rawlings. Need I say more?
