Moss

seems to have found his perfect situation, spot up shooter role player for strong team.
He is 4/5 from 3 for 13 points thus far for KU tonight anyway.

Good for him.

Going 4 for 5 from deep then only scoring 13 points is pretty sad for someone that should be capable of getting to the rim. (Maybe sad coaching wise over perfomance)

And scoring like isn't anything different than what he could have done at Iowa.

The positive for him is, he likely got a pay check to transfer there. And will have more NBA scouts looking at him.

He scored 21 points off the bench, 5/6 from 3, and 6/6 from the line.

But yeah, too bad he can’t dribble or take the ball to the rack. Like telling Kyle Korver that he should be getting shots at the rim too. A good coach (Self, as sleazy as he is) leverages his players’ strengths instead of trying to improve their weaknesses

Hey I deserve flak for not realizing he scored beyond the 13 points. But I meant if you are shooting that well, get him the ball more.

What is the point?
The point is that Moss averaged 4.6 2pt FG’s and 3.2 3pt FG’s per game in his Iowa career and, through two games, has averaged 1.0 2pt FG’s and 6.0 3pt FG’s at Kansas.

(Edit: I meant field goals attempted, not field goals)

Self is, so far, leveraging Moss’ strength (shooting - regardless of how successful he has been), instead of trying to tell him that he needs to dribble and finish at the hoop (which is what Fran and Iowa fans wanted him to do) despite dribbling and finishing being the worst parts of his offensive game. I only wish that Moss had the opportunity to play along Mike Gesell or Joe Toussaint. We have needed a guard who could/can get in the lane, and it hasn’t been our point guards since Gesell, and it shouldn’t have had to be Moss.

He made the right decision to transfer, and through two games, Kansas is allowing him to showcase what he’s good at. However, as you alluded to, he needs to show that he can do it in bigger games

Was that a player or coach issue?

Yes, you get to read the opinions of the vocal minority whose postings here seem to be mostly negative. I'm of the opinion that the vast majority of Iowa fans felt that Isaiah gave us his all and played his heart out to be successful. I wish him nothing but the best as he moves on with his life.

When he starts out hot Isaiah would play well. If started cold his total game would fall apart. A very inconsistent player with a lot of talent.

Kansas can afford a roster spot but Iowa needs our better players to be more consistent because we have so fewer options. CJ may very well be better. Three games into his career its obvious that CJ has better handles, court vision and better on the ball defense. I think the shot will come around pretty quickly as well.

But a 5th year senior is a tough loss for Iowa.

Of course it doesn’t hurt to have a bunch of 4 and 5 star players that are excellent at getting to the rim.

LOL!

Good for Moss. Hope he does well at KU.

However, it appears that the Legend of Moss" is starting to take off now.

Step 1 - fans pile heaps of poop on current player
Step 2 - player transfers
Step 3 - player does well
Step 4 - fans wonder how in the world the Hawks let him get away?
Step 5 - Blame coaches

This works for both football and basketball.

^^^^^^^This.

Moss had his games at Iowa. He did not have them on any sort of consistent basis. Maybe he will at KS but I sure as heck wouldn't bet on that.

CJ might eventually be a step up, but likely not this year.

You asked me to clarify my point just so you could post “LOL!” in response. Nice

Based on your response to hawk4shurs post, you still don’t seem to understand, that I’m not saying he’s going to go off from behind the arc every game. Or that he’s going to develop some newly found consistency, or even that he was some great player at Iowa.

However, I would be willing to bet that, because he isn’t being asked to take shots he isn’t good at (2 pointers), he will finish with his most offensively efficient year of college basketball with his highest FG% as well, and he will be in a better position to play pro ball upon leaving college. That’s all I’m saying, and there’s nothing “LOL!”worthy about that unless you are the Joker

CJ is a RS Freshman and Moss a Senior, so a bit unfair. But, where people grew frustrated with Moss was 1. Inconsistency and 2. His Below Average BBIQ

As stated previously, Moss is a spot up shooter "specialist" for the most part. A damn good one though.

Moss was an enigma at Iowa.

He could look like a first team all B1G player for a game, or part of a game, then completely disappear for 2 or 3 games in a row. It was the complete disappearance for long stretches that was the hardest to understand.

This isn’t a Fran problem. At KU, Moss is surrounded by high end talent that can create off the bounce. Therefore, he can just stand at the three point line and shot open threes. At Iowa, he didn’t have that luxury.

He didn’t have the luxury because Fran recruited two PG’s, Bohannon and McCaffery, who have no ability to get into the lane and draw multiple defenders. Cook was the closest we had to being that guy.

We saw against DePaul what happens when the threes aren’t falling and teams have an answer for Garza. Who do you go to? Who can create for both themselves and others?

To be clear, I like Bohannon and McCaffery as players, and even as PGs... but then they need to be surrounded with more athleticism/slashers, not other shooters

I’m a Fran supporter (for now), which puts me in the minority on this board (or so it seems), but his roster construction leaves some to be desired in my opinion

CJ plays way better defense, sees the floor makes the extra pass and has a pull up game you can see in three games hes better passer, defender, creator. He missed a couple last night but still shooting a high percentage. But we need defense and CJ is our best defender as a freshmen.
