Mowing the lawn

What’s too early to have the yard staff mowing the lawn. The staff was out at 8:00 this am and the neighbor, who is that guy, whined because it’s too early. My opinion is that if the mower isn’t horrifically loud 8 is fine. Before 7 is too early. 7-8 is a gray area.
On a week day, 8 is fine, unless your neighbor works the night shift and gets to bed at 7 in the morning.

Electric mowers aren't as quiet as you would think they are. Quieter than ICE engines, but noisier than i expected it to be.
My old neighbor had one of those Roomba type robot electric mowers. That thing never made a sound. I wanted him to program it to do my lawn as well

8am is certainly a fine time to start
I'd even say 6am is acceptable given the heat in some areas.

My lawn service folks use this so not an issue.

Typically 8 is fine, IMO. Even 7 is probably fine if its the only time you can do it. If your neighbor works nights and is sleeping from like 6am-2pm, I can see a reason to be a little upset.

If all he's trying to sleep in, then tough shit.

I would rather my neighbor mow at 6am instead of 6pm when I'm out by the pool listening to music and drinking beers
I was walking in the park the other day. Across the street was a family was out in their yard around a fire, trying to enjoy the evening. Their neighbor was out doing his whole yard with a gas weed wacker loud as shit.

My wife mows our yard as she likes to do it.

I'm going to buy her a self propelled electric I think.

Seems like many like them.

A few years ago I mowed the lawn around 2 a.m. I had just got home from the bars and was having some after hours beers with the roommates. In our drunken state of infinite wisdom we decided to mow. We duct taped a flashlight to the mower and off I went. I heard lots of yelling from the neighbors (rightfully so) but just kept mowing. About 45 minutes into my mowing, I noticed the house behind us was on fire. My roommates and I got the 2 parents and 3 kids out of that house before the fire department arrived. The house was a total loss. Fire was due to an electrical issue. The Dad from the burnt house came over the next day and told us how pissed off he was hearing our mower at that hour, but how ironically thankful he was. He brought us a couple of cases of Busch Light and some T-bones to show his gratitude. Great man and a really nice family. I often wonder where they ended up. Is it one of you fellow HROTers??

Anyway, I know.....CSB. And I agree with 8 am being the time to start mowing.

My neighbor has electric, most of the time i don't notice he mowed until I go outside. Sometimes I can hear it, but it wouldn't wake me.

That would have been a much cooler story if something you had done had like set their garage on fire.

Depends on the circumstances. If your neighbor works 3rd shift and has mentioned that he sleeps in the morning then I think 8:00 is too early. However, otherwise it is fine. Also, if it is going to be really hot then there is no "too early".

7 am on a weekday. Tell the neighbor to FO. I live next to a high school. There is a guy who is contracted by the school board to cut the grass between the sidewalk and the street with an edger. He’s always out there just after 6 and always on a weekend. I’m always up before then so no big deal. Tell your neighbor that he’s a pussy.

If you truly have someone (a service I'll call it) mowing, just tell your neighbor you really can't pick the time. And if they have windows open, that's on them and not you. And if they do have the house all closed up, again, that's on them and not you.

In June I worked on repairing my shed, about a 3 week near total rebuild of all walls + paint and trim. Deconstruction, hammering, sawing, power tools, air compressor, etc. Did it all myself with leaving everything inside during the entire process.

I didn't begin to use "noisy things" until 8am, but I'd be outside working at 6am to beat the heat. Every weekday (and a couple Saturdays), there was the sound of construction going on in the neighborhood beginning around 7ish am. So, I didn't feel all that guilty.

None of my neighbors complained, and they never have whenever I have projects going on (I'm always fixing up something...big time DIYer).

But yeah, weekdays 8am, weekends 9am, and on all days begin mowing no later than an hour before sundown. Neighbors don't like it, tough shit.

What's funny is in 2007 I installed double pane double hung windows all around, new underlayment, new siding/Tyvek etc. The soundproofing that all did was incredible...there's really no noise that seeps through that's bothersome. Hell, my next door neighbor drives a Harley...no biggie.

I was going to use this example to start a post on everyone’s best Karen story. He is definitely a Karen. He called the police because I was changing my oil in the garage. Because he was afraid I was going to dump the used oil in his yard.

What’s more obnoxious in the early morning, mowers or snow blowers? I vote for the latter, mostly because I know I have some shoveling ahead of me.

Have a neighbor that one morning around 5 am had his old/loud snow blower going.

I'm 90% positive he did it because he's on disability and didn't want anyone seeing him do it and figured everyone was sleeping.

He doesn't work, there's ZERO reason to do it that early.

Hate that guy.
