Mowing the lawn

A few years back the lot across the street and on our corner of the neighborhood was being built. The builders were contractors (contractors family) so they were building the house themselves on weeknights and weekends exclusively. That got real old real fast for everybody in the neighborhood to listen to every night, every weekend, the sound of machinery, saws, pounding, dirt moving equipment, etc. It was miserable sitting outside with neighbors, enjoying a few beers. It was like, JFC, it's 8PM on a Saturday night, enough already.

Snowblowers are fine 24/7. It can snow 24/7 so it builds up and you might need to dig out in phases, plus snow can drift in when it's windy causing you to have to dig back out.

Extra credit to any neighbor who blows out the entire block's sidewalk.

My lawn service folks use this so not an issue.

These work great if you have a nice lawn. Buy it for $10 at a garage sale and never pay another dime.

Moved in with my GF now wife about 16 years ago into her home and she was paying a service 200 a month to mow her tiny back yard. like 30feet by 50 feet. I bought one of these for like 20 bucks on craigslist and used it for 3 years with zero issues.

8 am is fine. Ours usually starts around 8:30.

I had a neighbor once that started mowing around 8 PM, which was very weird. He'd always be finishing up in the dark.

I used to kid him that we should start a 24 hour mowing service. I'd mow in the day, he'd mow at night.

Have a neighbor that one morning around 5 am had his old/loud snow blower going.

I'm 90% positive he did it because he's on disability and didn't want anyone seeing him do it and figured everyone was sleeping.

He doesn't work, there's ZERO reason to do it that early.

Hate that guy.
My wife and I are both out the door during the winter before 7. If I’m going to get the snow blowing done it has to be early. I think most people are in that boat.

I get that.

If you read my post, this guy doesn't work. Neither does his wife.

He's on disability.

This, in my old neighborhood the neighbor across the street mowed every Sunday night at 8pm. I just hated that.

Nobody will complain about mowing with one no matter the hour.

Starting at 8 is a little extreme but when it's hot AF the evening is the best time to mow for the yard and often the human. If it reaches over 90 for the high I like to wait til the backyard is in the shade which is usually the 7-8 range. The sun is pretty intense here at elevation. Never had a complaint

Weekday 8 am is fine
Weekend 9 or later
This is the ordinance in Dubuque County. Until sunset, which means 9pm in June/July.

Snow blowing is allowed 24/7.

Lawns can be spread out over 5-7 days, whereas everyone needs their snow cleared on the same night.

What’s too early to have the yard staff mowing the lawn. The staff was out at 8:00 this am and the neighbor, who is that guy, whined because it’s too early. My opinion is that if the mower isn’t horrifically loud 8 is fine. Before 7 is too early. 7-8 is a gray area.
Weekdays 7:00. **** the whiner. Maybe 8:00 on weekends. Wake the **** up whiner. ;)

We live on a golf course and those workers start doing stuff right after 7 AM.

I never understood why they weren't mowing at 5 or 6 AM. At minimum watering at that time. Just played the other day with my wife and there was standing water all over the greens and around the cup. Dude stood there still spraying as we approached. I'm an okay (not great but better than average) golfer but I was very uncomfortable as he waived us on not looking and standing on the green.

Totally get where you're coming from! Mornings are sacred, right? Reminds me of when I started growing a creeping thyme lawn. Its gentle fragrance made me appreciate peaceful mornings even more. I think 8 am sounds reasonable, as long as it's not disrupting the peace. But yeah, anything before 7? Definitely too early for me too. It's all about finding that sweet spot for everyone's sanity!
