MSU-Oklahoma tips at 10 PM?!

Is it correct that Michigan State and Oklahoma tip-off at 10 p.m.? That seems to be the case, and it seems crazy that a game of this importance begins at bed time. It'll be over a little after midnight. We all know TV runs the sports world, but when will the craziness end? Or is it just me who thinks no sports event should ever begin before noon or after 8 p.m.?

It's the same for both teams, but I would guess this would be the latest starting time they've ever experienced in the biggest game of the year for them so far. And it's a great starting time for viewers on the West Coast, but not so good for the rest of the country. Anyway, can't remember a 10 p.m. tip-off ever happening before. I'm not impressed. It may not be quite as crazy as the Cubs playing a night game on a Sunday in early April, but it's gettin' there.

That's what I was confused by last weekend.

Why was UNI tip so late? I mean the entire day Sunday they had 1 game on CBS at 11, 1, and then they didn't wait until 6:00pm for the Iowa game and then UNI to follow?

Why not start all sites at the same time ( I get it the West Coast couldn't start at 11am) But they could of started of 3. That would of been a 1pm start out there.

It just made no sense especially with using TBS, TNT, TRUE, and CBS. You would think the NCAA could come up with a better schedule. Why have only 2 games during the day and then load them up in the evening and night on Saturday & Sunday?

You guys have no mercy for the people on the west coast. Michigan State-Oklahoma tips at 10 eastern, 9 central.

But hey the NCAA cares about the students.
I am confused here with this snark. Are you thinking that, were this game to start, say, two hours earlier (8 PM EDT), then the athletes could, by 11:00 pm EDT or so (on a Friday night, no less), have finished the game, showered, and gotten back to the hotel, so that they could then study, but since they won't be back to the hotel until, say, 1:00 am Saturday EDT, the NCAA does not "care about the students"?

Or, is this just fact-free bashing of big institutions?

Good god. Because ratings are better at night? Just a guess.

I don't get how the ratings can be better when people have to flip between 3-4 games at a time? You would think they would try to over-lap them so at least 2 games were going on at the same time (similar to what their doing now) but do that through the entire weekend? I get it the 1st round is difficult because you have 30 some games to play in 2 days. But when the 2nd round hits, stagger them, so you don't have teams playing at 9:00pm on a Sunday night.

11am Site 1 start
11:30am Site 2 start
12:30 Site 3 start
1:00 Site 4 start and so on. This way at least a couple games are ending, while a couple more are starting. Sunday there were 2 games between 11am-4pm?? Why not stagger them starting at 11 (east coast sites can start) and then stagger them east to west, so the west coast is starting around 1-2pm their time.

You don't remember last night? Utah-va started at 10 pm eastern. Last weekend a number of games started at 10 pm eastern. It's what they do.

There are two games at the site on weeknight. If you play first game early, people will complain they have to work and miss game. So. Too early or too late. Also NCAA and TV focused more on ratings than anything else

It's ratings, the networks pump in a ridiculous amount of cash to determine when they're going to get the most viewers. To attempt that you know more than them when it comes to making money is asinine. There is a definitive method to their madness.

Nobody anywhere goes to bed at 10:05, unless they're 8. Or 80.

Dang me, dang me, they oughta take a rope and hang me...

the TV money from the tournament is driven almost completely by TV viewership. I'm guessing the conferences can live with it.

What made no sense yesterday was that UCLA - Gonzaga tipped at 4:15 Pacific time in Houston and then Duje tipped at 9:45 Eastern time.

I'm sure the TV executives have a lot more data and research than random "these games are too early or too late"

Simple answer...the games are played at times when the most people will watch. Duke was in the time slot that they would get the most viewers. And they get a lot more than a ucla Gonzaga game.
