My anecdotal voting experience

I voted just now. It was busy but moved well.

I also noted a bunch of personal friends working as poll watchers or poll workers from both sides of the political aisle. I made no value judgements about who they are, their character, or their intelligence based on their political leanings. I respected the fact that they support who they support, for various reasons, based on how they view the world.

I live in a rural area just outside an urban area. It goes pretty heavy red. I’ve voted in same precinct at same location since 2018.

1) It was PACKED. I’ve never had more than 5ish people ahead of me in line to give my ID. These lines were the short length of the gym (25* people in each) and then there was a line outside waiting to get into these lines.

2) The demographics were VERY shifted blue. It’s normally a bunch of older couples and then a smattering of middle age professionals. Today there were a lot of people of color, very young voters and women by themselves.

3) One woman was wearing a MAGA hat very loudly professing that it does not have a candidate name or political party on it. Others were audibly complaining. Nothing happened.

4) Another old lady said “we can only vote as our preacher says.” I got busted rolling my eyes.

5) A number of obvious immigrants (mostly Nepali). I loved seeing people being uncomfortable, but nobody demanded their citizenship status.

Anyway… anecdotally even though she is a longshot here, if this is a trend all over the country it looks very good for Harris.

TIFWIW
I just voted in Ankeny and it was packed as well. The person who checked me in said I actually came at a good time because the line was out the door when polling opened, and that she hasn't had a break yet today.

Imagine complaining about someone's red hat.
To be fair it’s illegal in half of the states to wear political garb at a polling place as it’s considered electioneering and you wouldn’t be allowed in to vote while wearing it. Not sure where OP votes but in Iowa voters can wear political garb. Poll workers however cannot.

i scouted the voting place in the morning…from outside looked per usual ie sleepy and slow. as the most irresponsible voter in the country i’ll have to do first rehearsal run of my sample ballot this afternoon before heading out to vote

About 40 minutes for me, longer lines than I can remember but it went very smooth. More diverse crowd than usual in terms of age. I enjoy voting in person.
I drove by my polling station this morning at like 7:10AM and the line was longer than I wanted it to be, especially considering it was lightly raining outside. It was out the door and into the parking lot So I went to the gym and cruised back through at about 8:45 and got in line with only like 6 people in front of me. Played it well/csb

And then I changed outfits and voted about 10 more times.

Dunno if you are at the same polling station, but I overheard the staff saying the machine jammed earlier this morning.

My wife no pics just got back and said that happened while she was there too. Slowed things down a bit. Trinity?

Just got back from voting.

Election worker commented on how prepared I was because I had my ID and voter registration card.

No line - walked through the process and then to a voting booth. Voting itself took a minute - I believe there were 33 different things I was voting on.

Everyone there seemed nice and sane and friendly. No one ranting about politics or fraud or anything. No one cursing or throwing things or trying to initiate physical confrontations. It's almost like social media is designed to show you the worst 0.01% and make you think it's everywhere so you get all riled up.

I don't think middle-aged white guys are the typical targets of voter intimidation.

I never get to do anything fun!

I get that it's a product of where I live, and not everyone's experience is the same, but the election workers and the people voting seemed to represent a wide variety of genders, ages, and ethnicities.

But yeah, I know I'm not normally the one someone's going to try target for stuff like that.

Really quiet here over noon hour. Mostly older folks. With early voting and all the other options you have now probably hard to compare to past patterns.

You think I could wear my t shirt that says Prosecutor versus Felon and still get in line to vote. Actually never mentions either candidate and in fact it’s not even an opinion, just the fact !

The Deplorable / Nazi / Garbage T shirts should work nicely also then...

The answer I believe would be no I’m not allowed to wear that in line to vote. Your response about t-shirts are opinions. Mine was a fact and no I don’t think I’d be allowed to stand in line and vote wearing that shirt
