My Observation

The only real disappointment is IMart or Kokesh not getting the wrestler of the tourney. They both beat FAR better competition than Loggie Bear (no disrespect to Stieber's talent).

Sorry but this was a no brainer - the guy is on his way to being a four time national champion, he won in dominate fashion and the match is on his home mat - there is no way he does not get it.

How many matches did we lose or go to OT by last second take downs?

This post probably needs to be saved for reference in a couple of weeks. Might be good for a chuckle.

Remember after Mizzu beat Iowa? And our friends from the South discovered the internet? Somebody started a thread about how terrible Iowa is and magically two first posters, who no doubt are the biggest Iowa fans in world, piped in to agree. In only four posts, we have now discovered how to start a thread. Congratulations.

No worries. We would be disappointed if you stopped trying. We make T-shirts for this. They say, ""It's okay, we hate you too".

My observation was 2nd,3rd,2nd,2nd,9th,9th,3rd,3rd,4th,2nd. Eight weight classes in the top 4 in the best of the best conference. We will be fine.

I for one don't think Iowa was humiiated. This team is the most balanced team from top to bottom in the country. Jeva got schooled in the finals but just getting their was a big surprise. Other than 157 and 165 Iowa competed strong. Brooks looked lost in the final seconds and in overtime in his first match, but wrestled back to place third.

The missing ingredient for Iowa is having one or two studs that u know will be an NCAA Champ or at least a BIg Ten champ. I was impressed with the Freshmen from some schools competed and how mature their body looked.

One thing that also has stuck in my mind was the number of comments made by the commentators is how much of an impact Mark Perry has made with their wrestlers. I know Illinois is not a power house, but I'm sure he was a big reason why Martinez came to Illionois.

125 - Slightly disappointing, but it doesn't change my viewpoint that he can compete and win against any 125 in the country.
133 - Big plus, showed he can finish high and compete with anyone in country avenging earlier losses one by a large margin.
141 - Huge plus, showed he can AA. Hopefully, he gets put in a good place in the bracket.
149 - Slightly disappointing, right there with top guys. Hopefully can make a few adjustments for nationals.
157 - Disappointing, but should have done enough to qualify.
165 - Disappointing, but should have done enough to qualify.
174 - About what was expected.
184 - Disappointing, but battled back for 3rd.
197 - About what was expected.
285 - Slightly positive. Came in as 4th seed. Got a takedown in regulation in finals. He finished his single against an athletic wrestler which he struggled to do against Coon and McMullan last time.

Probably the biggest disappointment was losing 3 matches in the finals that we thought we had a chance to win. Hopefully, that will motivate those individuals in preparation for nationals.

I though I saw some improvement in our upper weights riding. I thought previously we would slide down to leg too quick instead of getting pressure on the hands. One of my frustration was the lack of riding of our last two weights as we may need it in close matches especially if it goes to overtime or we get a takedown with 20 seconds left in a period.

On a positive side, three of our guys that had disappointing results won there last couple matches to leave the tournament on a positive note. Hopefully, they can build off that.

I think the positives of 133 and 141 could be a huge boost at nationals. Some of the other weights need to have good tournaments in St.Louis.

Excuse me. I may be stating the obvious - but isn't this all Jimmy Gulibon's fault? And following up with some more solid logic, who is Jimmy's coach? I rest my case.

Fellas, there are many what ifs during the last weekend.
For me, the biggest swing was a seven points swing that Gilman-Tomasello match made for a team race (in addition to overall Moore's performance, Brooks allowing a takedown two seconds to the end of his first match to go to overtime, Kelly who could probably/ironically place better and score more points in the consolation bracket, Burak having Schiller's leg up two times and fails to convert, Bobby blowing up a 3-0 lead to name a few).
On the other hand, Dziewa and Clark's performances were very encouraging; Gilman, Brandon and Bobby have the best chance to go all the way in St. Louis and Evans and Brooks have some room for improvement in two weeks.
To sum it, I am an optimist and I hope our guys will seize this great opportunity!

I thought we did pretty good with the exception of 157 and 165 those are our two weakest weights though. Telford should have won his match other than that. Petty good showing. Two of our guys losing to NCAA champions is not choking (one is a freshman). The other guy losing to an absolute phenom. 174 was as to be expected. 184 may have done better but did produce points. 197 was about what it should have been. There are some very good wrestlers in the BIG and it showed this weekend. There will be some BIG wrestlers crowned in The NCAAs. Could be 5 or more. So to say we choked against top notch competition is ludicrous. We lost to some equal and better talent, that it just the way it is. I think we have a great chance at the NCAAs We may do it with some seconds and thirds though. If we could get one guy on the top I believe we will win the thing.

I guess I can understand why you'd call yourself a bad official if that's what you saw. Some disappointing results, sure, but I sure wouldn't classify it as "humiliation," "choking," or "disgusting."

I'll agree but maybe some disgust.
