haven't spent any time in nashville before and planning to attend the game.

any tips on the best place to stay for a great time? looking to enjoy the city and also enjoy the gameday experience.

looks like downtown area would be good, but what about any areas just outside of downtown? figured i'd get the best price on a hotel or condo possible, while still being in striking (walking) distance of a fun area. noticed some areas called 'the gulch', 'fang', and a few others, but can't really tell if those are a bit of a stretch.

thanks for any input!

Downtown is it for nighttime.
Cheap hotels at airport area and Uber is a option.

The Music City Bowl signed a 6-year agreement, between 2014-2019 to select 3 ACC and 3 B1G teams. They have gone ACC twice and B1G, once.

No way Scott Ramsey and the Nashville Sports Council will not scoop up Iowa.
They wanted Iowa really bad in the early 2000s, with the prior 4-year B1G agreement, but was stuck with Minnesota 3 of those 4 years, and switched horses to the ACC, exclusively.

OSU/Connie/Penn State - CFP/NY6
Sparty/NW/Michigan - Citrus/Outback/Holiday
Iowa - Music City
Purdue - Pinstripe

Iowa to Nashville feels very obvious, at this point.
Still feel like, even if OSU loses, they will still be 1 of the 12 teams in the CFP/NY6.

Hotels in and around Nashville are expensive.
Be prepared to spend over $100/night, minimum.
There are plenty of Lyft and Uber drivers, in the Nashville area.

Tickets for the game are cheap, now.
The game is usually close to a sellout.
If it's Kentucky vs Iowa, the game will sold out in minutes.
Otherwise, Iowa vs SEC, should have plenty of tickets, available, but, definitely, buy on Sunday.

The Gulch is a nice area, about a mile or so, from downtown.
Never heard of the "fang", but the hockey team sells fang fingers.
There are plenty of Lyft/Uber drivers, in the area.

New Year's Eve will be great.
Heck, any night in downtown Nashville is great.
NHL All Star game was here.
SEC basketball tourney is going to be here, most years.

With any luck we will be out of town by NYE

Correct. My bad. Should be 12, but still feel that Penn State is locked in top 12, and I don't see Connie or Ohio State, dropping out of top 12, unless Ohio State gets blown out.
Don't see a 12-1 Wisconsin team dropping out of top 12.

you can find several people projecting iowa in pinstripe and Nashville, and one holiday bowl, if you google search it.

Last year, almost everyone thought Iowa would be Music City, but we saw that the Outback chose to take Iowa for the FIFTH time, instead of taking Nebraska for the FIRST time.

It's all about Wisconsin, Ohio State and Penn State, all finishing in the top 12 to be bowling in Nashville.
Pinstripe has little appeal, for many.

when you get beat by 30 it makes the choice a little easier

Thanks guys - hotels are looking to buy a bit more than the $100 range, but I expected that.

Do hotels by the airport have any kinds of features (location to bars, restaurants, shops)? Or are they just a better price?

We sort of prefer a 'neighborhood' area when we travel, but I just don't know a thing about Nashville.

I'm not really a country music guy, but I have really enjoyed Opryland, the Grand Ole Opry and the Paddlewheel steamboat dinner and show. History buffs will enjoy The Hermitage; and there are many regional food restaurants and small music venues spread across the city. BTW, there are still a number of good motels in the $50-80 range on Orbitz. We got three (cancellable) rooms for three nights in the Opryland Hotel for $87.

The four nights I booked downtown averaged about $225 a night. Ten days ago they would have cost me $155. Like most of what you say but I will not worry much about tickets. Took a few bowl games to get smart but have not paid face value in years.

I know pinstripe has little appeal and I think it will be Nashville. by the way I may be coming to Nashville, even if the hawks do not, but for another reason. I bet it's about 75% Nashville right now. just a guess

I thought I heard Purdue cannot go to the pinstripe if Louisville is selected there because they have already played this year. Not saying Louisville will be at the pinstripe but if by chance they are selected then we could end up there also and Purdue would go to the Music City.
