Missouri vs Iowa would be my pick for a matchup, though I'm sure a lot of non-B1G schools would want Iowa. Pretty good matchups at 149 and 157...

125 Gilman#1 vs McGheeUR (Gilman MD or worse)
- McGhee was tough last year (rd of 12) but isn't the same this year

133 Clark#3 vs Erneste#15 (Clark MD, could be closer or worse)
- Erneste is tough

141 Carton#20 vs Eierman#9 (Eierman Dec)
- Eierman is funky and could catch Carton, but could get sloppy and lose too

149 Sorenson #4 vs Mayes#3 (Tossup but I'd pick Mayes)
- Hard to believe they've never wrestled

157 Kemerer #2 vs Lavalee #5 (Toss up but I'd pick Kemerer)
- Big win by Lavallee over JoJo last weekend. Kemerer has more offense

165 GuntherUR vs Lewis#4 (Lewis MD)

174 Meyer#8 vs WismanUR (Meyer Dec)
- Wisman beat Crutchmer last week, usually keeps it close

184 Brooks#4 vs LemanowiczUR (Brooks pin)
- A Miklus/Brooks match would have been nice

197 WilckeUR vs Cox#1 (Cox MD)

285 HollowayUR vs MyersUR (Tossup but I'd pick Myers by Dec)

Looks like I would have Iowa winning 21-17. Who would Iowa fans like to face this year?

We will prob end up with VaTech but I'd prefer Mizzou. If we end up with VaTech, we'll need Brandon to win out or lose another hard fought match to Zain in big finals, and we need either or Collica/Mayes to lose between now and then.

I could see it being Mizzou. I think they have the h-2-h victory over Virginia Tech this season, and have already wrestled tOSU. So they could match tOSU up with Virginia Tech and Iowa up with Mizzou. Then nebraska with NC State.

I would think there are two likely scenarios, both of which involve Iowa heading to Missouri:

If Penn State wins tonight: Penn State at Oklahoma State, Ohio State at Virginia Tech
If Ohio State wins tonight: Ohio State at Oklahoma State, Penn State at Virginia Tech

Cornell and Lehigh are #s 4 and 5, so you're probably looking at Rutgers/Lehigh and Nebraska/Cornell at that point (Rutgers has already wrestled the Big Red), and for six on down, I'd really have to look at the matchups, and who's abstaining from National Duals from the Big Ten.

Nebraska's already wrestled NC State. Would be very surprised if they did that again. (Also, NC State will either have to beat Virginia Tech, or rely on a wildcard that we're not sure they're giving yet.)

I believe that they determine pairings by NCAA rankings. As of Jan 31st, VaTech was ranked ahead of Mizzou. It would be PSU at OSU, Iowa at Vatech, tOSU at Mizzou, and Nebby at NC State.

Mayes or not, I hope that Brandon brings the offense everyone knows he has. When he wrestles with the intent to score then he is an animal. Here is hoping he has turned a corner and will not be content with being just hard to score on.

But there is wiggle room for better matchups, nonrepeating duals, etc. Missouri has already wrestled fOSU and Nebby wrestled NCSt. Iowa-Missouri, fOSU-VagTech, Nebraska-Cornell is better.

I think Mayes/Sorenson would be a good one. I'm betting both would get takedowns (Mayes is really good on his feet), so there should be some scoring. Sorenson's mat wrestling could be a difference maker too.

The dual is slated to start in between the 3rd/5th place matches and the HS state finals in Columbia. Big treat if you're in Columbia. Full day of wrestling.

tOSU vs Mizzou wouldn't be that bad. Micah beating Mayes would help Sorensen as well

Edit: as a consolation is what I meant

Yes we need to get revenge on Missouri for the other times they went exaggeratedly try-hard on us in the National Duals.

When do they announce national dual pairings?
TEAM SELECTION AND SITE LOCATION: Will be determined by Sunday, February 12

Guiding Principles:

  • The top two “Non-Big Ten”’ Schools will be selected based on the “NWCA Final Coaches Poll Ranking.” The Division I Leadership Group (Selection Committee) reserves the right to modify this if it feels that there are extenuating circumstances.
  • Best efforts will be made to avoid having teams paired that have met each other earlier during the season.
  • If a conference team champion declines to host, the next highest ranked conference team will serve as host.
  • The PAC-12 will not participate due to the time frame being one week before the conference tournament.
  • All conferences will establish a tie breaker process that will be published and used by the Selection Committee in determining the participating teams.
  • The top two ranked BigTen teams would be paired with host schools according to the process approved by the NWCA DI Leadership Committee. The highest ranked BigTen team will be paired with the highest ranked “non BigTen” team, etc.
  • The teams comprising the remaining 6 Bowls will be assigned based on regionalization.
  • The NWCA DI Leadership Group (Selection Committee) will have the final approval on the team pairing of the remaining 6 Bowls.
  • The IVY League and Patriot League will each receive a bid
  • The committee reserves the right to add up two additional wildcard match-ups if the teams are ranked in the top 5 but do not otherwise qualify to make the field.

So PSU vs. OK St,

Collie being chased around the mat by Rutherford.

Gotta be good for Sorensen's ranking...........no?

Gotta hope for a Missouri-Iowa dual. That should solve Sorensen's seeding problem. If no Mayes matchup, gotta hope for a Rutherford tech fall - or at least a major.

I don't think margin of victory matters much in regards to rankings/seeding. It's all about wins and losses. Hopefully we get Missouri.

Brandon needs to beat Zain to win the title either way. Maybe I'm alone, but I don't care too much about the difference between 2nd and 3rd.

If Iowa was truly a title contender I would care a lot more, but this years NCAA's is about individuals achieving their goals.

Making the finals is a pretty good goal. Of course, he wants to win it all. I'd take wrestling on Saturday night over 3rd, every day of the week.

I don't know about that so much. Would tend to agree with you in most cases, but most people probably know that Brandon is really the second best 149er. He lost to Collica in 2OT by a few seconds riding time in Stillwater and took Retherford to 2OT (and if he doesn't beat him at BTs, hopefully it is close). If Retherford TFs Collica, common sense would put Sorensen ahead of Collica. That said, Sorensen is a Hawkeye and would probably still get the 4 seed.

And wrestling on Saturday night >> 3rd.
