PISCATAWAY, N.J. – No. 13 Rutgers wrestling (10-3, 3-2) lost a tough 20-12 dual to No. 9 Minnesota (6-2, 1-2) on Saturday afternoon in front of 3,438 fans at Jersey Mike's Arena. RU picked up four ranked wins against the Gophers, which included decisions from No. 7 Yaraslau Slavikouski (HWT), No. 13 Jackson Turley (174) No. 16 Dean Peterson and No. 20 Mitch Moore (141).

Eight of the 10 bouts were decided by three points or less, with the Gophers picking up overtime victories at 133 and 197 pounds en route to the dual win. Minnesota - who checked in at No. 9 in this week's NWCA Coaches Poll - is the second of four consecutive top-12 opponents RU will face in the coming weeks, along with No. 1 Penn State, No. 7 Ohio State and No. 11 Michigan.

With an non-traditional start at 141 pounds, Moore opened against No. 21 Vance VomBauer, using a takedown late in the third period to secure the 4-1 decision. Minnesota picked up the next three matches to take an 11-3 lead before Turley faced two-time NCAA qualifier Andrew Sparks. Turley landed two takedowns on Sparks and fended off a late comeback attempt for the 7-4 final, as Rutgers headed into the break trailing just 11-6.

Upsets at 184 and 197 followed for Rutgers, with previously undefeated No. 9 John Poznanski losing a tough 4-1 decision in overtime to No. 24 Garett Joles. Joles' overtime victory gave Minnesota a 17-6 advantage with three bouts to go.

Rutgers muscled back-to-back decisions from Slavikouski and Peterson. Slavikouski landed two takedowns on No. 29 Bennett Tabor for an 8-2 decision, while Peterson also produced two takedowns in his 6-4 decision over No. 11 Patrick McKee - a two-time All-American.

Trailing just 17-12 heading into the final bout of the afternoon, the Scarlet Knights needed a tech fall for a chance to win the dual. However, a loss from No. 8 Dylan Shawver (133) in overtime to No. 26 Tyler Wells sealed the dual for Minnesota.

Rutgers hosts No. 7 Ohio State on Sunday, February 4 at Jersey Mike's Arena. The dual is set for 1 p.m. and will stream on Big Ten Plus.
Geez, injuries have sure taken a toll Spark’s career. He looked like he was going to be a good one his freshman year. And another head scratcher from McKee.

I don't wish anything bad to happen to UNI wrestling but I must confess, that I covet my neighbor's 184lbr.
Don't get me started on our staff's complete failure at improving this weight class.

Watched it...except for a few matches, they were the clear aggressors. The Cuban at 141 shot a ton and the other guy got dinged once I think.
Where's Cody? Did one of the Ferrari's come and scare him away?

And as much as Mitch hates it, ISU is no slouch this year. Neither is either OSU fyi!
Dresser has been in Ames for 7 years and he's VERY well compensated.

Agree that ISU has their best team in 10+ years, but that's a low bar to clear.

Good dual team, but let's see what happens at Nattys.

To be fair, I didn't watch a minute of it. Just saw the final score. So there's that

Don't get me started on our staff's complete failure at improving this weight class.

Seriously? He had Assad, Swafford and Brands all get popped with the gambling fiasco. He then went full court press on Truax, but all indications suggested he was going to PSU no matter what they offered.

What more, in such a limited time frame, was he supposed to do?

Also, wasn’t just about everyone thinking that Assad was the one that was going to get the lightest sentence based on the interpretations of the rules at the time?

Yes seriously. Abe has been either injured or horribly inconsistent his entire career and we have recruited squat to compete with him in that time. Been the same old story with him since 2020 when they pulled his shirt.

As to trying to land Truax, that is pretty much my point. Another wiff. And the gambling thing exposed how poorly this weight has been handled. If they had recruited the weight better for the last 2-3 years like that should have it wouldn't have been an issue.

Not sure I had ever seen a -1 score for a team before.

Guess Brown might have set a record with that.
In the 80s, my high school shut out a rival and their HWT swung and hit our HWT in the shoulder after their match. Our HWT returned the favor and hit him in the jaw. After deducting one point from both teams, the score was 52 to -1.

Cornell's #14 Meyer Shapiro Majors #5 Brock Mauller of Missouri

Cornell true freshman Meyer Shapiro has been on a roll since suffering a pair of setbacks at the 2023 Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational on Dec. 1. He's won eight matches in a row with five bonus-point victories.

Shapiro's 14-4 major decision over Missouri's fifth-ranked Brock Mauller may have been his most impressive college victory to date. The two-time age-level World champion used four takedowns, including a highlight-worthy drag to a duck in the second period.

Mauller is a senior three-time All-American who has been a staple for the Tiger line-up.

No. 9 Cornell knocked off #4 Missouri by winning six of 10 matches after #4 Noah Surtin picked up a fall at 125 pounds to give the Tigers a 6-0 lead. Cornell's returning NCAA champion Vito Arujau needed a riding time point at 133 pounds for a 10-9 win over Cade Moore.

No. 1 Keegan O'Toole of Missouri knocked off #4 Julian Ramirez, 13-5, after giving up the first takedown of the match.
