Class of 2026.

I don’t follow recruiting, but I will say this kid already looks strong and has a Big Ten body before even starting his senior year. I also like he’s 6’4 and dunks with ease.

I think this kid will fit in well with Ben’s system and will bring a quality that has been severely lacking for a long time: toughness.

Did he say he is staying committed, or are you hoping he stays committed?

Hes #3 in the state. Hopefully we can get the other 2. One is a center and the other a combo sg to a sf

Great news, indeed.

I've always believed that one element that is necessary for the long-term success of the Hawkeye MBB program is to keep talented Iowans in-state. We went through the LaFrentz-Collison-Hinrich-Barnes era when that was not the case, and it was a problem. Not every in-state star is D1 material, of course; but when they are, they need to be Hawkeyes.

Honestly, I think that's a big part of why Mac singled out Dix and Sandfort as players he wanted to retain. They are Iowa kids, and it's nice to see those kids staying home.

Interestingly enough, unless Jirak commits, we could go into next season without a single native Iowan on the roster. I'm not sure that's ever happened.

Good news.

Kid is already Big10 strong and seems to have a good all-round game. Can shoot it, good off the dribble, and is a good passer. How will he play D is the question but he has the body for it.

Shabazz!

all-time great last name

Shabazz!
Fans should start using it like “SHAZAM!!” when he makes an amazing play (like for the super hero, not Gomer Pyle).

He hits a 3 point shot, the crowd can yell SHABAZZ!!

We do not need the top in state players to be successful. One could argue the opposite. Fran's teams often had 7+ players from the state of Iowa/city on the border on his roster. Even Davis didnt' have that many during the 90's. I would have a hard time coming up with 5 Iowans that have reached the Final Four. Hinrich, Collison, Paige, and Wessell is all I can think of. Lafrentz, no. Barnes, no. I have no problem with getting the top recruit if he's talented enough but loading up the team with in state recruits isn't going to get the results people are hoping for.

Agree.
Getting instate players is a bonus when they are high level talent that can be acquired at a reasonable market price point. This young man looks like he has the necessary athleticism and skills. I can only assume his asking price is in the range that BMcC is comfortable with.
Having instate players on the roster just because they are Iowans isn't a good thing. Many examples of that over the years, not just with Fran.
I think there's a need to be even more selective now with high school recruits, whether instate or otherwise. This is pro sports with finances playing as big a role as player evaluation. The roster should reflect that.

You’re crazy. We will never compete with getting the top Iowa players. Frans best teams were led by Iowans: Murrays, Jok, Bohannon, Uthoff, Wood bury, Gessel.

No one is suggesting we have half the team from Iowa, but without the top players we cannot compete.

possible i missed it but is dix staying?

I think, from a culture standpoint, you need at least a core group made up of Iowans. But we don't need 7-8 of the 15 players being Iowans. 4 would suffice.

I definitely would not recruit certain players just BECAUSE they are from Iowa, but absolutely need to be able to keep a lot of the top in-state talent in black and gold. Probably is not realistic to expect to lock down each and every one of them (ISU will probably get some of them, and so on) but if the good in-state talent is going elsewhere, then that's a program problem you just can't have.

As you pointed out, there's in-state talent worth recruiting.

I understand your point. Just not sure I see it that way anymore.
If BMcC can get put a roster together of mostly out of state and foreign players and somehow get them to the elite 8, I'd be ecstatic. Even if there were only a couple of token Iowa native players on the roster.
Results in the NCAA tourney take precedence over having more local players on the roster.

I read where he's really had a good hoops season this last year. Solid outside shot, great passer, and some really nifty moves around the basket in these clips...

This is good news and an excellent recruit.
