With the advent of the trasfer portal it is apparent that high school players are being overlooked for overpriced NIL prospects. Often times their are great players from smaller schools that may go unrecruited by power 5 progams. I think it is worth discussing players that may be in our area that could make the jump to the Big Ten. Feel free to add players you think are worth discussing. I will start:
Luke Frazell from Waverly Shell Rock is a 6'6'' shooting guard that has had much better statistics than most all the recuits Iowa is missing on. I watched him play in the 3A state championship 2 years ago where they lost by 1 point to a team that was basically the Quad Cities all-star team. He was 1st team all tournament in 2023. WSR didn't make it past sub state this year because the team relied too much on Luke in their last game. Despite that he scored 43 points in that game. He is an ice cold shooter from anywhere. He can shoot it deep or get to the rim and draws fouls and shoots freethrows in the high 80's. He can go to his right or left and always finds a shot against tight defenders. Look up his statistics or articles on his game play. In his senior year, Luke shot 57.2% overall and 54.9% from 3-point range (and he shot a lot of 3's). He has a quick release and is very aggresive on defense. Frazell led the team with 18.7 points per game and added 7.2 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.6 steals. I have watched him put on a clinic verses Shabazz, Lafrenz and Thomas Meyer. I am just shocked he didn't get recuited harder. I believe he is going to a private college next year in the twin cities but he would be someone Ben should watch film on. Last I knew his recuitement was still open. I am sure he would be willing to change his college plans if he got an offer. While his statistics and measurables are simial to Coons, something stands out. Luke Frazell shot 54.9% behind the arc to Coons 33.8%. That is a defferance of 21.1% people. Steph Curry has a life time average of 43.1. I am not comparing this kid to Steph Curry but it is worth noting purely based on shooting potential. If we are playing money ball and trying to get the most out of players, let's build a team around statistics. If you know the coach, pass this on. He would be a perfect fit in McCollum's sytem. This humble young man is an assasin with the ball in his hands.
