With the advent of the trasfer portal it is apparent that high school players are being overlooked for overpriced NIL prospects. Often times their are great players from smaller schools that may go unrecruited by power 5 progams. I think it is worth discussing players that may be in our area that could make the jump to the Big Ten. Feel free to add players you think are worth discussing. I will start:

Luke Frazell from Waverly Shell Rock is a 6'6'' shooting guard that has had much better statistics than most all the recuits Iowa is missing on. I watched him play in the 3A state championship 2 years ago where they lost by 1 point to a team that was basically the Quad Cities all-star team. He was 1st team all tournament in 2023. WSR didn't make it past sub state this year because the team relied too much on Luke in their last game. Despite that he scored 43 points in that game. He is an ice cold shooter from anywhere. He can shoot it deep or get to the rim and draws fouls and shoots freethrows in the high 80's. He can go to his right or left and always finds a shot against tight defenders. Look up his statistics or articles on his game play. In his senior year, Luke shot 57.2% overall and 54.9% from 3-point range (and he shot a lot of 3's). He has a quick release and is very aggresive on defense. Frazell led the team with 18.7 points per game and added 7.2 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.6 steals. I have watched him put on a clinic verses Shabazz, Lafrenz and Thomas Meyer. I am just shocked he didn't get recuited harder. I believe he is going to a private college next year in the twin cities but he would be someone Ben should watch film on. Last I knew his recuitement was still open. I am sure he would be willing to change his college plans if he got an offer. While his statistics and measurables are simial to Coons, something stands out. Luke Frazell shot 54.9% behind the arc to Coons 33.8%. That is a defferance of 21.1% people. Steph Curry has a life time average of 43.1. I am not comparing this kid to Steph Curry but it is worth noting purely based on shooting potential. If we are playing money ball and trying to get the most out of players, let's build a team around statistics. If you know the coach, pass this on. He would be a perfect fit in McCollum's sytem. This humble young man is an assasin with the ball in his hands.

Statistics??

How about the competition those said statistics come against?

What travel team does he play on and what are his stats vs national-level competition?

Also, I feel confident that BM has a decent net of coverage on the type of players he's looking for, watching their game film or seeing them play in person in order to determine their fit and skills.

If Frazell is worthy, I'm sure he will soon announce having an offer from Iowa or another major program.

Bmac being at Drake before this, definitely would’ve known who this kid was. They have to know and recruit the “2nd tier” Iowa kids that UI and ISU don’t go after. If this kid didn’t even get a scholly offer from UNI (which maybe he did, but doesn’t seem likely since he’s going to a private school in MN), which is 15minutes down the road from wsr, then I doubt he has any business in the BIG.

He does play for All Iowa Attack. AAU ball doesn't make you a good team player. Too much iso trash.
This is correct. He has been good in high school and in AAU. To those who cant read completly and thoroghly, senior stats are listed and they came against good teams and he shot in high volume. Waverly was beating the top ranked teams in 3A by some large margins throughout the past 2 seasons with him leading the team in scoring. He was also playing against some kids that have gotten a lot of recuiting buzz. And to say coaches don't miss kids in recuiting is laughable. The percentage of kids that get scholarships to D1 schools off of state championship teams vs teams that don't win a title are stagering. I am not his dad nor his uncle. He is just really good player that is worthy of a look. Watch his film and tell me you aren't intrigued. There are a lot of so called experts on these boards that get out of breathe putting on socks in the morning.

Regardless of the level any 6’5’’ big scorer shooting more than 50% from deep has potential in modern bball. AAU often will not reveal how good a “3 and d” player is but they are essential to a teams success.

Agree Iowa should take a strong good look at Frazell. The "all-star team from the Quad Cities" (a quote from earlier) that beat Waverly in the state championship game in 2024 was Shabazz's team from Assumption. Just heard from a local coach that Shabazz, as a freshman in Florida, was a FRESHMAN 5-star. Apparently, his family moves a lot, and he was loyal to Fran who recruited him when he was a soph. Maybe his 3 star rating this past year was because he was under the radar. Frazell may be the best player out of Waverly in years.

Jesus, bro...

How is anyone supposed to take you seriously when you can't even be arsed to spell the coach's name correctly?

It's Ben McCollum, FFS.

Being from Waverly, if UNI didn’t even offer that should say something.

Gimme the kid from Kentuckyone offered the Murray brothers

200+ other D1 schools didn't offer either, evidently. I'm not worried. Still remember people here screaming because Seth Bonifas and Bowen Born weren't offered.
Murray brothers basically had 0 offers as well. Not unheard of for recruits to slip through the cracks, esp small town kids and late bloomers.

I've seen him up close a few times. Great, great scorer. The team was loaded his junior year. Loaded. Older brother graduated and is at UNW (St Paul) and could fill it up. This year the rest of the firepower graduate, too, so Luke needed to score a tonefor them this year to beat good teams. He faced about every defense you can imagine, and still put up those numbers. The problem is he is a tweener at this level. Not quite quick enough as a wing to guard P5 wings. Not quite tall enough to play 4. He is also going to UNW to play golf and basketball, and is going to score a lot of points there. Great kid, too.

for every example of the Murrays you can find thousands of counter examples. They certainly were outliers. Having said that, point taken.

Who was that kid from Sioux city with unreal scoring and rebounds stats? I think he was 6'4"? Everyone wanted Fran to offer.

That was my take. He is athletic but not maybe as athletic as some of the kids he would be facing. He sure can light it up though! probably the best pure shooters I have ever seen at the HS level. He is a bit of a late bloomer though. I recall he was somewhat stalky throughout his younger years until about his sophmore year when he really started to grow. With his size, frame and some weight training that he does have the opportunity to develop and potentially transfer to a D1 if he chooses. Thank you adding something subtitive to this discussion.

I wanted to point out that I meant 2023. I got my years mixed up.

(Noted) I was typing with reckless abandon and forgot to capatize the second "C." Maybe the NCAA should form an investigative comittee to look into my gramatical errors. That should fix the problem.

Looks like a scorer!
If you watch the first video you will see him just draining 3's. However, if you let the video go to the next video you will see his junior highlights. I think they are more insightful to his skill set. There are pleny of clips of him finishing at the rim. You will see him stealing the ball and taking it fulll court some as well. He was playing on a much better team his junior year and with the defense spread out to acount for the multiple scoring threats he was able to really showcase more skills. Consiquently, his senior year numbers were better but that is because he had to carry the team. His shooting percentages went up which tells me he is clutch with pressure and multiple defenders on him. He often just had to take games over. I recall in the championship game in 2023 that he had I want to say 24 points against Shabazz. However, it could have been more. That was a while ago and I am going off of memory. And to a previous question. He is going to UNW (St Paul) to play with his brother. I think UNI was intersted in him but I don't know if he wanted to stay that close to home. Somebody said he may be the best player to come from WSR in a long time and that is correct. He is a much more exciting to watch prospect than Austin Phyfe, Clint Carlson and Connor Coleman (recent players) were from WSR.

While you're noting that, you should maybe also note that there is only one "o" in our head coach's last name -- McCollum NOT McCollom.

Maybe the primary school that passed you along to middle school should form an investigative committee to look into clawing back that certification.

Look on the bright side...you can always run for POTUS.

Never compare me to the POTUS! That is a bridge too far. I will definetly admit that I rely too much on spell check and do not always fully proof read my posts. However my posts are coherant and i stay on point. The same can not be said of the other fellow.

Can you ask Qatar, UAE, and the Saudis to donate a few million$$$ to the Iowa NIL fund?:)
