Per Chad Leistikow of HawkCentral, at 3:30 pm CT, April 4:

* There were 29 early entries for the NBA draft who have hired agents.

* There were 64 early entries who have not hired agents (includes Moss and Cook; these players will be going thru the NBA evaluation process).

* There were at least 50 additional early entries expected to eventually either hire an agent or not hire an agent (and go thru the NBA evaluation process).

The above numbers will only grow, of course.

And then you have to add in the following, who are all hoping to either get drafted or simply land a job in the NBA:

* the seniors with no more college eligibility
* international players
* players in the G League (like Uthoff)

As far as the NBA Draft goes: there are 30 teams in the NBA. Only those players picked in the 1st round get guaranteed contracts (all first-round rookie contracts are guaranteed for two seasons, with an additional team option in years three and four of the deal).

Josh Hart was the #30 pick of the 2017 NBA Draft; he is guaranteed $3,049,680 and a potential of $7,370,779 over the 4 yrs of his rookie contract.

You don't want to be the 31st or later pick because nothing is guaranteed. The 31st pick was Frank Jackson, a Duke PG. Never heard of the guy and probably won't again?

Bottom line: Want to land a job in the NBA? Good luck!

About 15 or so of those picks will be overseas players that probably will never play in the NBA.

Not even sure why the NBA has 2 rounds. The top 20 play. The rest get sorted out in the G League.

Exactly.....I'm all about these players/kids to go after their dream but at what point does the young kids figure it out that out of all the college players D1 or any other level that only 20 kids make it. That's a tough percentage to think you can make the next level. Especially if you aren't 1st team all conference at any conference.

It's a dream. Making it in the NBA is arguably the hardest professional sport to break into , due to the smaller size of the roster compared to baseball and football and the international competition for spots (baseball has this also). And whether or not you are first team all-conference has zero to do with a player's ability to make it in the NBA. Zach Collins from Gonzaga has played 62 games this year for Portland. He played 17 minutes per game last year for Gonzaga, scoring 10 points a game. Numbers don't scream NBA player. But he's 7-3 and has some outside skills. He will likely carve out a long NBA career.

The numbers are against any college player ever making it. Really, really good/great college players will barely see a cup of coffee in the NBA or never get there anytime. This despite dedicating their lives to it and working their butts off.

I do like it that college players can go through the process, see how they stack up against other players and get honest feedback from someone more objective than their uncle or best friend. I will never fault a player for going through the process, or for even leaving if their options are going overseas or the G League. Some guys just want to go get paid for playing basketball while they can. Don't fault them for that.

The #20 pick is guaranteed $4,066,440 over the first 2 years and a potential of $9,529,198 over the 4 yrs of his rookie contract. The numbers decrease all the way to the #30 pick, who is still guaranteed $3,049,680 over the first 2 years and a potential of $7,370,779 over the 4 yrs of his rookie contract.

With these numbers, if you are slotted as a 1st round pick, I can see why a player would enter the draft. If nothing else, if things don't work out after the 2 years (and collecting over $3 million), you can still play in Europe/China/etc and earn a decent pay check

The real money is in coaching basketball. Great gig if you can get P5 college job and even better if you get NBA coaching job.

Uh, yeah, I guess a job that only about 100 people do and millions wish they could qualifies as a “great gig.”

100 people? In the NBA, you are talking 17 roster spots x 30 teams, which is 510 players

in July 2017 NBA teams had two more rosters spots to populate as part of a new collective bargaining agreement. These new roster spots are called two-way slots, which will allow NBA teams to carry two additional players who will shuttle between the home team and the newly branded “G-League” minor league team.

These new roster spots will in essence allow a team to control the NBA rights of up to 17 players. Teams will still only be allowed to dress 13 “active” players, but it will allow a lot more flexibility in roster management, especially for “G-League” teams in a close proximity to the parent NBA team

I have a feeling we have seen the last of Cook and Moss in an Iowa uniform. Neither one will sniff the NBA, but, there are other options out there to get paid to play. Even if they don't get paid, I expect both to transfer. I believe there are some internal problems on this team. Just a gut feeling. We'll see.

I was replying to HawkLogic's comment about NBA and P5 coaches, dipsh*t. With all the posting you do around here you'd think you could figure that out.

But thanks for the math lesson.

Bull. You quoted me and replied to me, and you are calling me swear words?

Are you THAT STUPID? Well, of course you are; I have you completely figured out (not that it was hard).

Please do one smart thing FOR A CHANGE and put me on ignore.

LOL. No. I replied to HawkLogic. Look at my post; the very top says "HawkLogic said." Since he had quoted you, some of your old quote came up, you saw it, and went "Fran."

LMFAO at you calling me stupid. You have me completely figured out? Please, do tell. I think someone who starts a new thread every 30 minutes is a lot easier to figure out.

I will admit, recommending that I put you on ignore is BY FAR the most intelligent think you've ever posted here.

You are an idiot; i knew you would reply and try and defend yourself. And just so you know, i took you off ignore only to reply to you; i did not bother reading your post, because your posts are just a bunch of BS. I am glad you wasted your time in typing whatever you typed, because no one cares..

thanks for reading this and do us all a favor and go away.

and please put me on ignore and keep your miserable life to yourself.

And I knew you would reply and try to defend yourself. And now not only do you have egg on your face, you’re also a liar; everyone knows you read everything in my last message.

LOL. I hardly think you speak for everyone on this board. I’m sure most would much rather that YOU go away. Why don’t you start a new poll thread about it?

Is your real name Gladys Kravitz? Did you just cover all those options without one smidgen of fact, inside information or anything at all except your gut? You forgot one possible option, (here is where I would register my disdain for people like you), they just might stay at Iowa where they are happy.
