NCAA Tourney thread - Rd 1

Yep. We paid for a diamond but didn't get much more than some shiny coal on that pick. Hate it but the guy just hasn't done much.
Who knows--maybe we paid for some shiny coal that TNT thought they could transform into a diamond. He looks like you'd expect a #29 P4P recruit to wrestle, which is a guy trying to figure out how to break through the barrier to top 10, rather than how you'd expect a top-5 P4P to wrestle, which is being in the finals...which is what we needed. But we've covered this topic once or twice.

Check the profile date. Been here for years. It’s exceptionally bad this year when we are the most visibly injured team we’ve had under Brands.
It's the guys who aren't injured who are frustrating me (i.e., 157, 165). We knew we would need bonus to be competitive and our big gun at 165 settles for a decision against a far inferior opponent, and then KY scrapes by as usual. As for 184, I just don't get it. Ton of talent that just didn't materialize. That said, I'm very happy with MM. Had he not gotten the fall he still would have had a TF. He was letting it all fly and beating the hell out of that poor opponent. Dude looked defeated well before the fall. :)

Can someone break down scoring? Fall is 3, tech is 2, MD is 1. Half of that on the backside. What about wins, advancement and placement?

Advancement is 1 on the front side, .5 on the back. Fall is 2, tech is 1.5, and major is 1, regardless of side

Placing is:
1. 16
2. 12
3. 10
4. 9
5. 7
6. 6
7. 4
8. 3

You earn placement points as soon as your minimum place is guaranteed; i.e. if you win in the quarters, you are guaranteed at least 6th place, so you earn 1 point for advancement plus 6 points for sixth place, plus any bonus.

The quarterfinal round (Friday morning) is really when the team race starts to take shape

184 came in ranked like 29th in the class. That should be seen as a project rather than first choice, imo. But here we are. Go Hawks!

I get it but it's hard to rack up big points against guys who run and play defense the entire match.
