Went to the Nebraska game with a friend who is a Nebraska fan. Never been before. I know a lot on here say their fans are classy, but I had a very different experience. It was so bad that my friend almost got in a fight with another nebraska fan due to the absolute stupidity. I heard every excuse in the book. Things like you are going to get killed by michigan state, if you were really good you would be up by 3 touchdowns, delany wants a team in the playoff, and the best was 4 wins against nebraska in 35 years which is comical since until recently we didn't play on a recent basis. There was another nebraska fan in the crowd that called these guys idiots and said quit living in the past. He said all that matters is tonight. Maybe I got in a bad section, but these people were so delusional. I had heard stories, but I got to witness this in person. Just had to share.

Every fan base has idiots....usually fueled by alcohol. I saw a father and son from fOSU get verbally harrassed by drunk Iowa fans outside Kinnick once. It embarrassed me. GO Hawks!

I didn't experience this at all. Everyone was very friendly and welcoming.

I know every fan base has idiots and I do think this was probably not all that bad compared to other experiences. I just thought, man, these guys are so out of it. They really do live in the past. My friend, again a Nebraska fan, was embarrassed.

Went to Lincoln a couple years ago. Wore all my yellow and cheered loudly for the Hawks. I couldn't believe how nice the Husker fans were to me before, during, and after the game.

Wore a Boz jersey in Lincoln in 1986. The fans at the stadium are really nice. The idiots seem to be on the message boards which is probably the best place for them.

by the way I wasn't expecting applause.

As a Husker fan I will say the applause is usually better but its usually not 20 degrees, most fans were ready to get out of the doors and get warmed up, it was a demoralizing season to say the least. All of the Iowa fans in my section got along with us Husker fans just fine.

It was always easy to applaud the other team when knocking around the Big 8.

Now their true colors will show with a decade of mediocre. The other shoe has dropped and suddenly they have evened out their fanbase, just like every other program.

As in society in general, take 90,000 people and statistics are such you will have a little bit of everything... Rich, poor, nice people, aholes, alcoholics, vegetarians, meat eaters, etc. Kinnick included. Have seen my fair share of Hawk fans act embarrassingly obnoxious toward visiting fans.

My point is every fanbase is pretty much the same. You will ALWAYS have idiots sprinkled in... No matter the stadium or town... Unfortunately, some visiting fans get exposed to the idiots while the majority do not.

I've attended around 30-40 Nebraska games in my life and have only seen one appalling act by our fan base and it was a drunk college age kid. There has been plenty of ribbing and shit giving here and there but that's sports. I wouldn't expect to go to Kinnick and not get a little shit thrown my way. It's part of being a fan of the opposing team. It's part of the experience and I like it.

I went to colorado Nebraska games in the 90s and we had cars keyed, threats, ect for being Nebraska fans. That's the same fan base that soaked snowballs in piss and threw them at our players though.

I hate that our fan base is known for being nice. we don't need to be dicks but a little hostility could help the environment.

Doesn't sound that bad. Do wonder how the OP acted toward fans to begin with. I've never been to Lincoln. But when visiting opposing stadiums you get what you give. People that act like pricks get treated as such. If you are decent you meet nice people.

1986? Wow, that's a long time ago!

So, anyway, I was there when the Hawks beat them at Kinnick in 1981 - the visiting Nebraska fans were very cool. They went downtown and partied with everyone else on the day we hucked the fuskers. They would complement us for not being pricks like at ISU games.

Insulting a person simply because they cheer for a different team borders on insanity.

One of the best ideas I have seen was in Seattle last year. Undercover Cops dressed in Niners gear for the game. They announced it as well before hand as a warning. The goal was to get rid of the idiots. Plus you can text a number if there is a fan being an idiot and the undercover cops will come observe. They do it for every game now and I like it.

Of course there were a few people that have tried to cry entrapment. Here is an idea, don't be a fricken idiot and you can stay and enjoy the game.

Absolutely not true. I've seen people just walking down the street get physically accosted..zero provocation. One in Iowa city where Iowa fans threw full beers at Michigan fans who were just walking and talking to each other. The other was in Madison....similar situation but the fan was grabbed and punched.

We had no problems. It seemed like they were more pissed about their own QB to be concerned with anything Iowa was doing, some wished us luck next week. We weren't in the Iowa section.

We were treated better than I expected on Friday. We only got there about an hour ahead of time and we were peppered with the usual taunts and ball busting walking in the lots, but we were also offered food & drink just as we do to visitors in Iowa City. We also got stopped by a group of young student aged men after the game that were not wearing shirts and they gushed about how good the Hawks were and confidently predicted we would win the whole thing and go 15-0

I would especially like to thank the comely young Huskerette that fed us hot Pecan Orange muffins just before we entered the very nice Memorial Stadium.

All in all we had a great time.

I've been to the last three games in Lincoln and this was the worst experience. It wasn't horrible by any means but, the pre game getting to our seats was bad. Lots of Husker fans talking shit really loud. Even during the game there were a few delusional fans. Had a guy behind me who was very nice and knowledgable. One guy sitting next to me talked the entire game and was an idiot. Thought that hit on Desmond King out of bounds was a homer call. Lol. Might have been the easiest late hit out of bounds call ever.

On the way down the stairs one Husker fan was shaking hands with all the Hawkeye fans and saying congrats.

Like I said, nothing too crazy, but it was the "worst" of my three visits.

I was impressed about how we were treated in Lincoln after both wins and losses. Most Nebby fans are arrogant but also very classy. Some went out of their way to compliment Iowa. Same way two years ago.

There are always a few exceptions but I stand by my opinion you usually are going to be treated well if you don't act poorly. People also have to realize they are visiting and are going to get stuff said to you. Usually it's going to be said in good fun.

I hate teams that label themselves "the best team in <enter sport here>"
those teams seem to have a huge portion of their online fanbase that are insufferable pricks.

we have seen it on this board the last two weeks with Nebby fans. I have heard that the St Louis baseball club referred to as "the best fans in baseball". In the summer, watch any comments online by St Louis Cardinals fans and see how arrogant those fans are. At least their club backs up the shit talking that comes from their fanbase

Had pretty good experience at the Iowa-Nebraska game. 1st thing I noticed was the seating is very close. Fortunately I sat by a very tiny lady whose was a Hawk fan and my son-in-law who I didn't care if I got in his way. I now know how they get 90 thousand plus in that stadium. Most of the bitching in our section was over how bad Tommy Armstrong played. Husker fans did yell at Ferentz to get off the field. One time was during a 30 sec. time out. Maybe not the brightness fans. Several Nebraska fans congratulated us and wished Iowa good luck against MSU. One older Husker fan asked me if I enjoyed the game and if I was treated alright. All in all it was one of the better times I had at a visitor's stadium. They do need to update some of their songs. 1st time I ever heard a Phil Collins song at a football game.

I was treated very well on Friday. I agree that the rows were close together. There was a heavy Nebraska fan in our row that must have had the smallest bladder in Nebraska. I basically dry humped the guy 8-10 times trying to get out of his way so he could get past me. I didn't care much for that. The rest of the experience was positive including at the bars pregame.

My worst experience was on Wednesday night when I ran into a guy I grew up with at a Sioux City bar. He is basically the #1 reason I grew to hate Nebraska. We talked about the game. He immediately wanted to bet $500 on it. He owes a bookie friend of mine a lot of money. I suggested he pay him instead as I knew I wouldn't be getting paid. Later on he got angry and wanted to go out in the parking lot and fight. I said you want to go out in the parking lot and fight over a football game between a bunch of kids and he said yes.

That guy hasn't been put in his place yet. He will one day. I've done my job putting such people in there place. Corrected some attitudes in my life. Those days are past...but i might have taken him up on it for old times sake

I will say that as for how I acted, kept my eyes on the field and cheered for the Hawks. It really wasn't that bad. There was nothing said directly towards me so to hint that I must have been acting like a jerk is just untrue. My comments were more that the fans around me were really just acting like babies and saying stupid stuff about Iowa. I did have several fans congratulate me for the win. I will say that a woman in front of me turned to me after a Canzeri run and whispered "Go Hawks." She was uncomfortable rooting out loud for Iowa given a few Nebraska fans around us, and I know every fanbase has it's jerks including Iowa. I must have got stuck around a very few bad Nebraska fans.

We had more "Welcome to Nebraska"'s and pats on the back going into the stadium than we could handle! Then we got to our seats and had some jerk and his son behind us that obviously don't get out of their trailer too often. But all in all it was a good experience.

LOL. At least it helped you stay warm??

I had a blast talking to Iowa fans before the game. Drank a lot of beer and had some great conversation. My wife and I were up from Georgia, and I don't think she's ever felt a wind like that.

I met a ton of great Iowa fans on Saturday. Was great to talk B1G football and have beers with a great fan base. My wife and I were up from Georgia, I usually try to make it to one Nebraska game a year. I would pick the coldest day of the season to bring a native Georgian to her first B1G game haha. I don't think she's ever felt a wind chill like that.

I had one guy tell me "Nebraska by 25" on the walk to the stadium and I told him "I'll take that bet any day", other than that not too much was said. Some moron cheered really enthusiastic and was pointing at us yelling "go big red" when Nebraska tied it 7-7, his head was down the rest of the game though and they left with 4 min left or so. A lot of people around us left early, I think they were fairly confident they would win.

Their stadium booed the targeting call on Smith - Geary was excited that he did it. Classless fans, players, coaches, administration. They are on par with ND hate.
