Nebraska going to play spoiler now?

Nebraska still has all of the same problems they've had all year. Tommy Armstrong is a very poor decision maker and throws bald in coverage a ton. They are still a turnover waiting to happen on offense. Biggest thing for the hawks is just control Nebraska's running game. Their o line is suspect as well, not as good as Indiana's. Defensively their secondary is atrocious. Like Indiana bad. There will be tons of plays to be had against them.
And don't forget the fact that game has probably been circled in Iowa city for some time. The way we lost year has to sit in everyone's gut and the nonsense their ad said after the game about the Iowa program, I just think we'll be very motivated for that game and take care of business against them.
First things first tho, let's take care of Minnesota Saturday night.

Nebraska's consistent strength is stopping the run. Their best bet on offense is to drop Armstrong back and let him scramble and avoid tacklers until a WR breaks free or he throws a jump ball up for grabs and the Huskers somehow manage to come up with it or get the PI calls........

We need to gets picks early and often against Nebraska and make them pay with points on the scoreboard. That was a key in 2013, getting those early turnovers to help set the tone. Gotta do that again.

Nebraska was going to upset somebody at home. They played all the rated B1G teams in Lincoln. Wis, NW, Mich St, & Iowa. Just glad it wasn't us! They definitely won't win 2 B1G home games.

Unless something has changed in the rules.....not possible.

There are 80 bowl spots, they are predicting there will be 6-8 spots that aren't open because teams aren't 6-6 or better. Thus, 5-7 teams are next in line. To go to a bowl at 5-7, the academic performance ranking things are used. Nebraska is like 5th or 6th nationally and I believe most of (if not all) of the teams ahead of them are bowl eligible. So...yes a 5-7 Nebraska team will get a bowl invite if there are as many open bowl spots as predicted.

I live in Nebraska, and all their fans are talking about is just beating Iowa (don't care about Rutgers or the bowl). Wins over MSU and Iowa and their season is made.

Not to look too far ahead, but, having the misfortune of seeing every Nebraska game, one of the keys will be getting pressure on Armstrong. When he has time to work in the pocket, he is typically able to find his man. He turns foolish with the ball when there is pressure on him. Many times he just throws the ball up and it turns into an interception. Hopefully Parker and the defense dial up the pressure

Definitely need to get pressure on Armstrong, he loves to throw the deep ball, and need to be able to read that QB sweep they've been running and flow to the ball. It's very readable typically they bring the FB and TE out as the two lead blockers.

Yep. I like our matchup defensively with their offense. Offensively, we'll need Beathard to be on in the passing game to exploit their terribad pass D, along with their rush D being a strength. Really looking forward to that game. I think it'll be fun to watch..... But I'm also looking forward to the game against Minnesota and the game against Purdue haha

That's nebbys whole offense. I don't think I've seen a team benefit more from PI calls. That and Westerkamp is always open

Iowa is undefeated for a reason and Nebraska has 6 losses for a reason. Nebraska will make a couple of big mistakes while Iowa will play mostly mistake free which will end up being the difference.

That being said, I will surprised if it's not a close game.

Really hoping Big Red can ride this momentum. We're going to have to play a dang good game to keep with Iowa. Armstrong is such a gunslinger. There are times, like the last drive vs. Sparty or Miami, that he looks amazing. Then he'll throw it right to a defender trying to make something happen. Who knows what will happen. I'm hoping this is a close game b/c I love what NU-IOWA is turning into. Best of luck Hawks. Bring Floyd home. Hope we take care of Rutgers too. Then we'll have some excitement come Black Friday.

It is FAR from a given that Nebraska will beat Rutgers. Good win for them over Michigan state but nothing has changed and the same things that have beat Nebraska all year should have beaten them Saturday. The play before the td, sparty dropped an easy pick that would've sealed it. Armstrong is a turnover waiting to happen and they're not very good defensively. It's a bad combination. Add in that I think the hawks will be very motivated after last year when we had to Lincoln and I just think the hawks will be in good shape. And don't be surprised if Rutgers gives Nebraska all they want and maybe pulls out a w.

Nebraska is a weird team this year. At times they look like a west leader and others they look like a bottom feeder; just no consistency with them. They have talent that is for sure. I want them to win against Rutgers so they have our full attention when we go in there.

They have some talent but to make it sound like they're a real talented team is not accurate. This is the least talented Nebraska team I think I've seen in my lifetime. No depth at all. Their oline is not very good and their secondary is awful.

You are probably correct. I would take Neb's D-Line as a whole though. Their biggest issue has been at QB; TA makes a great play then a lousy one right after it.

I think our dline is better, definitely deeper, than theirs. I wouldn't trade any of our guys for theirs. Now if Tommy wanted to play tailback, I'd take him at Iowa.

Of course it's what they're playing for. Think if the situation were reversed. Iowa would no doubt look to knocking the fuskers out of contention for a playoff spot or selection committee bowl. Unlike our "hated rival" purdue, many Hawk fans actually loathe nebby. While they wouldn't want to admit that Iowa is worthy of their attention, I think the feeling is mutual.

I love our d-line but you would have to be an idiot not to want Maliek Collins....

I agree. I love what IOWA-NU is becoming. I'm hoping that we play spoiler to you guys, though I don't think it will happen. Love coming over here to talk football too. Always nice to talk to other B1G fans without it turning into an elementary crap talk session.

I'm saying I'm perfectly happy with jaleel Johnson and Nathan bazata over Collins. My two guys are 9-0 and playing really really well. So you can have Collins.

First MSU,

Next.....

Really wish that game was in Kinnick this year.

Ah, our weekly, look-at-how-tough-the-opponent-after-next-is-and-oh-boy-how-will-we-ever-win . . . thread.

Although I noticed we skipped right over Purdue. Cause for concern? ;)

Hopefully the Hawks will win the next two and already have the West wrapped up.

Aim higher, Pops.

Me, too. We've been very successful against Northwestern recently. Feels much better than it did a few years ago.

One thing in our favor is having the taste of last year's choke job fresh in our mouths. We'll also be playing for a perfect record, methinks, so we're at worst even on the motivational grounds. They get a slight edge playing at home. We get a big edge for being a better team. Net advantage: Hawks

This. Add into the mix so many Iowa fans ramping up the bile and dismissive commentary and this is becoming, in every way, the Huskers real stand for the season, whether they get a crap bowl or not. It's almost like they want this to be the season pivot point instead of the CCG game that follows. God forbid that Iowa fail to put away Minnesota or Purdue and Wisconsin keeps winning. That unlikely but conceivable scenario could bring the focus on Black Friday to a fever pitch.
