Nebraska Jr. Day

I've been to Lincoln. It's very comparable to Waterloo/Cedar Falls, but at a Des Moines scale. There's the school side of the city that is nice (the Cedar Falls portion) then there's the rest of the city which can be quite grim (Waterloo portion).

"So Nebraska and Iowa were McQuitty’s final two. McQuitty said Iowa felt more like a “small town,” whereas NU felt bigger and the fans were more supportive."

Will someone please provide a list of things Iowa City has that is better than what Lincoln has to help me understand McQuitty's mistaken decision.

A little off topic, but with Iowa Basketball beating Temple today they have done more than Nebraska Basketball has done....EVER

Lived in Omaha for 40 years and attended 15-20 games in Lincoln. Both the basketball and football facilities are very good and I am sure impress possible recruits. The stadium is old and has had multiple renovations which gives the appearance of a "hodgepodge" facility. The biggest problem is all fans must enter at the ground level and if you have a seat at the top, it is quite a hike, to the restrooms and concessions. Not like several Big 10 venues that you enter half way up the seating of the facility. I never thought much of Lincoln, and it would never compare as a college town to Iowa City. I think Iowa City would be a big recruiting tool when in contention for a recruit that is also considering Nebraska.

LMAO! Lincoln doesn't compare to Iowa City as a college town??? Iowa City is small potatoes vs Lincoln. They are on 2 completely different levels. One is a small town, with a downtown that has a small town feel. And one is 300,000 people, with great music venues and restaurants.

It appears that Memorial Stadium in Lincoln has more seats in the end zones than on the side lines. What kind of goofy seating arrangement is that!

Well, I guess it's probably a 'goofy' seating arrangement that puts 18K more people in the stadium than Kinnick. A lot more revenue.

Try going to Texas A&M's stadium...good lord it takes forever to get to the top. Memorial Stadium is nothing to get to the top in comparison. Same with Texas' stadium on that one side with the HUGE facade. Nebraska's stadium...it takes maybe 5 minutes to get down to the concessions. NBD

As far as Nebraska, the facilities are nice and everything, but you can only get so state of the art. What are you gonna do, order in toilet paper with flakes of gold embedded in it? These recruits have it made and that's everywhere around the country these days.

Lincoln is a decent college town and football is a religion, so when looking at it through a recruits perspective...not nearly the same as your average Joe college student. Players live like kings.

Iowa City might be a "big recruiting tool" in comparison to Lincoln (highly doubtful because it isn't much, if better at all and Omaha is a quick trip and only 45 min away from Lincoln) but Nebraska has several advantages over Iowa that trump it. The biggest show in the state and > Iowa in everything from history & tradition to attendance to academic AA's to the ceiling of the program...pretty much everything.

It's why a 4* like Jaevon McQuitty just committed to Nebraska over an Iowa. Both schools have disadvantages in recruiting on the national level, but Iowa does well with their limitations IMO.

It's also why Keyshawn Johnson Jr. just picked Nebraska over Alabama, USC, Ohio St., Florida State, and Clemson.

Hard to tell with recruits...some may come from big cities and think Iowa City is too small, others may like the slower pace of campus life. Every University has something different to offer. Ohio State is in the middle of a town of 1 million and has nightclubs, restaurants, pro hockey, and tons of things to do. Some might prefer be in Lincoln or Iowa City, but then there is the benefit of playing football at Ohio State. That's what makes the recruiting interesting to watch!

Because Nebraska was his only committable offer....all of those other schools have bigger fish to fry

Right! Believe what you want.
Lol typical Nebby fan, the delusion is strong with y'all. Go to those team's boards and ask their writers if his offers were committable to those schools. You won't like what you'll find.

Memorial Stadium (in Lincoln) was first built back in 1920's where it was JUST the side lines. That's it. Over the years they expanded it, but recently the sidelines got some more seats but emphasis was placed on club seating not just individual seats.

And Iowa City is an awesome town? Interesting.

Well Iowa City is annually in list of top COLLEGE towns and as for fun Iowa City along with Madison are usually top 10 party towns annually. Just because Lincoln is bigger doesn't make it a better town. Cause with your logic DePaul, St Johns and USC would all be the best college towns in America then. As for players for bragging about recruiting why did Djimon Colbert pick Iowa over Nebraska? See how it works both way. But I guess after an awesome 6-7 season guess you got to brag about winning something when you get a recruit.

Translation: If I get arrested in Lincoln for rape or something there is a high percentage chance I walk away from that with zero issues. There fans (cops) are supportive.

That's how I read it anyway.

That sounds like a very good thing. I see you guys post regularly about the too-vigilant, and sometimes underhanded, tactics the Iowa City cops use. Especially against athletes, with all those underage drinking charges and any other criminal activity.

"Well, if it wasn't Iowa City, they'd be okay. Never see this sort of thing in Tuscaloosa, Lincoln, Gainesville, and so on" . . .

I think having a police force that understands "innocent until proved guilty" would be better than the jackboot methods your board talks about in Iowa City.

Keyshawn Johnson Jr to Nebraska, good for them. My opinion is that he will probably be a prima donna like his dad. I could be wrong though. With that said, Riley is putting together some nice pieces for the next coach after him in 2-3 years after he gets fired.

Lawrence Phillips says hi. He was always innocent until proven guilty. Well innocent cuz dr. Tom intimidated witnesses. Innocent is Innocent am I right?

If you really want facts about The Husker stadium and facilities then you posted on the wrong site. After filtering threw the retarded bashing mess Iowa fans tried to lay on, i just skipped to the end so i could post. If you really want the info, Stop by the Husker board and ask or go to another teams board like Oklahoma or someone like that. You will get genuine answers with out all the twist and BS to try and make Iowa look and sound better. Only to an Iowa fan is Iowa's football stadium and facilities better then the Huskers. And live it up Iowa fans, next season is approaching.

Yes the season where Iowa sends Nebby home with another L. Too bad it's Tommy Turnover's final year, I could enjoy about 7 more years of him.
