I have to say I actually almost feel sorry for them! They are like that sad old great uncle that is living 25-30 years ago. Still talking about the "glory days"!

How far have they fallen? Not as far as they will--ha ha!

It has made for an awesome season, especially with our beloved Hawks rated #10 and undefeated!

Go Hawks!

PS I live in Omaha, just couldn't resist another Nebby thread!!

What happened to the rivalry forum where we used to keep all the toothless Western Iowa fans locked up?

No really, it is kind of sad how far they have fallen, it is like having that mean old uncle that has finally addled his brain on too much booze and now is just kind of a harmless old coot that everyone just kinda laughs at. Now you just feel sorry for them.

So Nebraska is Uncle Rico. Sounds pretty spot on.

Yea...got to see a good friend today, who happens to be a huge nebby fan. That was fun.....still a little cocky, " yea, enjoy it while you can" is all he would say. That and he still has faith in Riley!

can't really talk sh#t on Nebraska until Iowa wins more games than they lose against Nebraska. Screams little brother syndrome.
My little brother kicks my ass. Shut up or I'll have him kick your ass!!!!! This fun no matter what the rules are!

It doesn't matter who you talk to about football when you live in Nebraska, at some point in the conservation you are getting into a time machine headed straight to the 90's.

Wish the system would let me LIKE this post about 10,000 times. We are set up for a miserable black Friday at this stage the way our fans are chirping. Nebraska is not a "bad" team, despite what people here think. They are a lot like the Hawkeye teams that found some way to lose 4 games by 12 points, although I totally get they lost 5 games already.

I live in Lincoln ... and I'd be lying if I said that I wasn't really enjoying this season.

However, that said, Hawk fans shouldn't get too comfortable with Nebraska being down. Almost all the mistakes I've been seeing from Nebraska are representative of a team that is learning how to execute within a new system.

The system that Riley is implementing is a good one and they're not going to be losing much from the current team. If they can remain healthy, keep a positive attitude, and be receptive to coaching ... they're going to be a darn fine squad next year.

The new passing system is far more dangerous than the old one, largely because it is capable of being more consistent. Once they better integrate it with their running game, the Husker O is going to be very balanced. The OL play has been pretty inconsistent - so I don't know how quickly they'll get that ironed out.

Also, under Pelini, the Huskers were absolutely dreadful at defending against the run without Suh. In his first year as coach, the D is already pretty stingy against the run. Now all they have to do is elevate the play of the secondary. The secondary should be quite a bit better next year.

As for the title of this thread......sure there were Husker fans that thought Nebraska would come in dominate and win right away and consistently. However, most fans knew this would be a tougher league to win than the Big 12 and we weren't winning the Big 12 to begin with.

I honestly see more Iowa fans "assuming" most Nebraska fans agree with and openly say the title of this thread than what really do. My .02.

Again, I live in Lincoln, and the vast majority of my wife's family (good people and avid Husker fans) thought that Iowa was garbage and that Nebraska would waltz in and dominate. One of the more foolish Huskerisms I've heard from them (and other natives) was that Pelini joined the program when the cupboard was full ... and subsequently left when it was bare. That is some of the most laughable excuse-making I've heard. If folks talk "recruiting-stars" - the Huskers have Iowa beat hands-down - and it's not even close. What does that mean about Iowa ... Ferentz has been winning this season and we don't even have a cupboard?

So your wife's family represents an entire fanbase?

Yes, a lot of fans thought Nebraska could come in and dominate. But even more knew that wasn't realistic. Like I said before, we weren't dominating the Big 12 when we came in, weren't even dominating the North Division of the Big 12, so most folks had (and still do) have fairly realistic expectations. Blowhards on talk radio and message boards do not represent the majority, though are sometimes the loudest.

As far as the cupboard talk goes....there is some truth to that. Bill Callahan was a great recruiter but a terrible game-day coach (especially defensively). He left Bo with a lot of talent, a lot of talent that made its way to the NFL. Once that talent got out of the program, Bo started to slip, and he himself was not a very strong recruiter. Nebraska has depth issues and player quality issues. The roster Mike Riley inherited is a lot worse off than the one Bo Pelini inherited.

Please, for the LOVE OF GOD, STFU about Nebraska. There is no reason to talk about them or even think about them for another 4 weeks. Trust me, there will be time enough to worry about them and frankly we will have reason to worry when the time comes. The game is in Lincoln and they will be gunning for us for several reasons.

How about beating them before posting 100 threads about them or at least wait until game week? Honestly, Indiana scares me the most, but for Nebby to beat us would help them salvage a crap season.

You're right, but after watching them Saturday they couldn't be Grand View. (This is the perfect set up to destroy Iowa's season, I know.)
