Nebraska's Pitchford giving up BB for senior year

Pitchford came to Nebraska after transferring in from Florida. He will work to finish his undergraduate degree in ethnic studies.

"I thank Coach Miles for giving me the opportunity when I transferred from Florida," Pitchford said in the release. "I have learned a lot about myself in the three years I've been at Nebraska and it is not an easy decision to give up playing basketball. I believe it is in the best interest of both the team and myself that I devote my time to completing my degree at Nebraska and eventually go into a career in business.

This seems really odd. He can't play basketball AND get his degree? He is not the best player in the world but at his size he can certainly be an important contributor. Why would Miles want to run him off?

Interesting. Pitchford's departure makes NE even more of a donut team than I expected for next year. I wonder if this is a "Creaning" attempt to entice Michael Edwards to Lincoln?

My first thought as well

With Pitchford's announcement it brings Nebraska's scholarships back to even with room for their four current commits.

Incorrect. Nebraska now has a scholarship to give this cycle.

Parker, Shields, White, Petteway
Webster
Smith, Fuller, Pinder, Hammond
Watson, McVeigh, Morrow, Jacobson

Which one am I wrong about?

I don't think it's that at all. If it was Tai Webster I could see it because he is terrible and was it the dog house all year. Smith actually was getting playing time and although not great he at least offered something at the offensive end unlike Parker. Nebraska will be pathetic next year, no size and alot of limited offensive players. I don't know what kid would want to play that brand of basketball.

I know people will totally freak out and kill me for this but it would not be the worst thing in the world if we ended up with room for Jones and Edwards.

Pinder.

He is a 2016 recruit. He is currently a freshman in JUCO.

You got me. Weird recruitment. From Australia, spent one year at Sunrise Christian Academy and was a 2015 recruit, committed to Nebraska. Grades an issue, but Nebraska makes clear they still want him. Now he's at a Juco and is taking two years to improve his grades before coming to Nebraska as a junior?

Not quite sure I understand that part, I've heard of one year at Juco to get grades straightened out but not two. But the media article said two years. Verbal Commits says one but then although it is a quick and easy way to check rosters, it is also quite often wrong.

Thanks for coming back and giving some info.

BTN guys (including Morris) were rather high on Nebbie during a discussion recently.

Interesting, I wonder if BTN has ever not been high on a BIG team. I'm sure they were high coming into this year as well.

From what I have seen of Morrow he is not someone you can run your offense through and is more of a garbage player at this point. That is putting a lot of pressure on Watson to cure all their problems on offense.

They're going to have a bunch of 6'7" forwards with Andrew White coming in, but for a team that relies on defense I don't think that's a positive. IMO these aren't the 6'6" or 6'7" guys Fran is recruiting that have the handles to play the guard position, these are undersized PF with their skill sets and it won't be easy to score.

Smith was a promising player...real loss for NU. Watson looked great this season at St Joes so he can probably step right in at Pg. if Petteway leaves as expected..NU could struggle again next year...but morrow, shields, white and watson give them a chance.
