Negativity

I don't think I've seen other coaches as red faced, snapping clipboards, slamming chairs and getting nose to nose with players as I have seen Fran do. I didn't like it when Keady or Knight did it. I also don't like the whining and complaining that Hurley does. Izzo has pelts on the wall, Fran doesn't. That's the rub, coaches who actually have accomplishments can reference those accomplishments when their bad behavior or questionable coaching decisions come up. Fran has achieved average and all the other crap he does. He does a great job of positioning himself as above the off color recruiting, which for many fans give him a pass on his below average recruiting.

It's heartwarming to watch Izzo ream the refs the entire game and then have one or more of them come over to him, put their arm around him as if to say he'll try harder to call the game better.
See the above post. I'm not one to criticize how a coach behaves. I dislike how izzo whines but lets face it; he's in a different coaching stratosphere.
I dislike the volatility. He gets so angry, there is no way he is thinking as clearly as he should be. He also gets too involved when cmac complains about foul calls.

Lol. Bad recruiting? He put 2 players in the NBA last year. One of which was the National player of the year. Might have another player of the year on the roster this year. That is sure as hell not below average recruiting. Go back and look at how many times Fran has had a player make the all big ten team. Guess you are one of those folks who will be unhappy no matter what. I love that he fights for our team. He replaced a guy who didn't.

if you’ve ever had seats right by the bench, you’d possibly change that opinion… but I don’t know, maybe you do have seats near the bench. I’ve used a friends seats before that are very close to the Iowa bench. I told my friend I couldn’t believe some of the things Fran was yelling. He tells me that’s the number one piece of feedback people give him about sitting in those seats. I realize that (like you) I’m just some guy sharing an opinion so I don’t expect anybody to agree with me.
Yeah my seats are in the 2nd row behind the Iowa bench. He does yell from time to time. It is really loud at court level, so to be heard you have to yell. Other coaches do it too. You should have heard the Penn St coach. Screamed throughout the entire game. If you hate screaming you must really detest Juwan Howard.

That is odd you have not seen that. Happens all the time. I saw it in the Illinois vs Purdue game last night when they had shot clock issues. Brad Underwood nearly took apart the scoring table.
Is Underwood a coach you respect?

He has hit a few players.. since 2016 his classes average 9/10th in the Big10.. His rosters have been full of limited skilled players and obvious holes. Hopefully Garza's dad and uncle can coach all of Iowa's big men going forward. I haven't checked, hopefully more legacy kids come in and become great players. I guess you are one of those folks who have an inadequacy/ scarcity mentality.

Naw, I am one of those people who forms my opinions based on facts. Clearly you are not an Iowa fan and/or you have some personal dislike of Fran. That's ok, but why not post somewhere else? If Fran is a lousy recruiter as you say, then he is an amazing developer of talent. If he is poor at developing talent as you infer with your Frank Garza comment, then he must be an amazing recruiter. You cannot have it both ways.

That’s his problem. He is so demonstrative toward the refs, he loses it by yelling and screaming at them to the point of showing them up. Refs don’t like that and contributes to Iowa not getting calls when there should be no call or could go either way.

Pretty telling too when the media asked PMac what it was like without Fran on the sidelines during the Minny game, he said pretty quiet. Sounds like a message sent that you don’t have to yell and scream all the time at the refs, players, and clouds in the sky.

But Fran does do a great job outside of the games running the program. No one will question that. It’s just his sideline behavior that people don’t like. Count me as one of those people. Focus more on coaching and less on screaming while quietly working the officials when needed.
Using Izzo, the most successful and longest tenured B1G coach as a comparison, Fran spends a small fraction of the game riding the officials. If things aren't going MSU's way, Izzo rides the officials like a mule, until they finally give in and start seeing things his way. Fran maybe bottles it up a little too much before he unloads. From what I have seen, most of the officials have a decent, if not good, relationship with Fran.

Also I think it is true that Fran generally signs the very best player in Iowa every year. He misses on a few but he gets most of them. As I am sure you are aware, due to a lower population Iowa does not produce the numbers of D I talent as most other states. It makes recruiting a lot harder than say, Michigan or Illinois.

Illinois has 3 players from Illinois and Michigan ahs 4 from Michigan (2 from Illinois). Iowa has 7 from Iowa, grant you 2 of his own kids and the Murray twins. 1 out of 2 next year, that class currently ranked 10th in the big 10. Sandfort was the 3rd ranked player in Iowa last year. He only signed the best players in Iowa, 3 times. Pemsl, Connor, Joe W. His classes rank 9/10th in the big 10, The argument your side makes is he turns these nobody's (guess he can't recruit) into good players. He is an above average coach, who has refused to address the glaring deficiency his teams have every year. Ken Pom AdjD 93, 75, 97, 111, 242, 123, 30, 34, 77, 24, 205, 56, 196. There is nothing wrong with wanting better and believing it's possible Iowa can do better.
