Just got off the phone with my niece who's son just lost his job as a government building manager in Des Moines. He relocated from KC about a year and a half ago. She and her husband are former military and both are also working for the government. She's scared to death they are going to lose their jobs and then their home. HUGE Trump supporters. She complained about Elon's emails asking everyone what they do every week and said there was some kind of altercation when a bunch of people on the floor above them were escorted out with zero notice. Nothing about the Dear Leader though. I feel really bad for her family, but I cannot understand the lack of awareness as to who is ultimately behind all of this.

Very sorry to hear this. I feel for anyone who has to go through a layoff, especially when you feel it’s unjustified.

Is finding a job in the private sector not an option? I have no idea what a government building manager does.

I would assume the same thing any building manager does? The issue these people might have is that the market is getting saturated by a large group of people who have recently lost these jobs. The market might have difficulty absorbing them.

Sorry to hear. Lot of good people are going to get burned for the nomination and election of Trump. Most of them who voted for Trump are just naive and easy to manipulate and are ill prepared. Now is the time for the nation to finally see it and take action. If they still can’t see it by the 4th of July 2025, they never will and our country is likely never coming back.

Sadly, neither does Elon or his wrecking ball

My hope is President Musk and Vice President Trump continue screwing over their supporters (the heavily-armed populace). Eventually those in power will also “Find Out”.

Hell hath no fury like that of an idiot scorned.
I honestly don't think most of them believe that it's his fault. There is a cogninitive dissonance in play here that defies explanation.

What action should we take now? Protest? Argue with each other on message boards?

We can vote again in 2/4 years. Other than that, what are you, me of any of going to do?

Personally I've been engaging with people I know IRL who support the GOP in hopes some will have opened their eyes. I doubt all will but some is better than none. It helps to have some easy to see and understand consequences playing out in real time.

It's family. I'm not going to put them on the spot like that.
Send them my way. I’m happy to. Not to rub it in, but because the sooner people wake up from their Trump la la land dreams the faster we can get back to real American values and policies that help all Americans - not just the wealthy among us.

Sounds like she has a better understanding of the big picture than you do. Bless them for their service.

She's actually a pretty simple person, much like the majority of Trump supporters. I love her, but I would never describe her as understanding of the big picture. As I said earlier, I found out from my sister that she is pretty unhappy with POTUS right now.

I have a couple thoughts. Im sorry he lost his job, that is never easy for anyone.

Having said that, Just because someone voted for Trump does not mean his job was necessary. In some ways, I like to hear that republicans are losing their job as well. I would be more concerned if Musk/Trump were only targeting democrats.

Since he voted for Trump, that tells me he is a smart guy and he will land on his feet. While this may sting in the short term, he will be ok.

Crazy timing. I just heard from my niece and she was saying she's 'expecting to lose her job' although it's not official yet. Said half the department has been let go already.

She researches and approves visas for foreign applicants looking to get married and emergency status visas apps up in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. Seems kind of odd to cut those positions. Lots of people looking to get visas approved will not be happy.

BTW, she's a big lib so no real FAFO vibe there.

Government employees may be smart to start sending out resumes and take another job before the job market gets overwhelmed. Granted, Trump can’t fire them all but is it worth the chance that your job is safe.

That sounds miserable.
