Name I haven't seen mentioned, but good chance I missed that thread

This comes as a surprise but welcome Mr Troy! Could he be the guy to replace BS after he graduates? Would fill in perfectly after a RS year!

Kid is the real deal. Need to find a way to get him, Marinelli and Young all into the lineup. Good problem to have and welcome aboard. Flo has him as the #17 ranked wrestler in his class.

I feel Young is sill growing and will be at 174 after his RS year. I found it interesting that Kemerer is listed as 149 this year. I'm wondering if BS plans to make the jump to 57 after this year. Then Troy comes in after a RS year and takes over For BS at 57. Kem 49, Troy, 57, AM 65, Young 74. Middle looks real tough!

A lot depends on whether Kemerer and Sorensen go 149/157 or 157/149. If the former, there'd be an opening at 157 in 2018 after Sorensen graduates. Marinelli at 165 and Young or Paddock at 174.

Kemerer is listed on roster this year at 149. I kinda thought he would wrestle 57 this year. might mean BS plans to make the jump next year. guess will find out in a year. Im so ready for wrestling to start!

What wouldn't be surprising is to see Kemerer wrestle 149 to start the year through Midlands, and then have him to go 157 in January. I believe that's what a lot of their top recruits have done in the past (Sorensen, Nick Moore come to mind)

This would be ideal. Part of what makes wrestling recruiting tough, is having to project what weight guys are going to settle into. Getting elite talent in the room regardless of weight should be the top priority, and this is a good get

Damn another top 20 recruit! Didn't realize he was only a junior. Morningstar knocking HR's all day! Nice work Hawks!

I know kids grow etc, but I'd really like to get a kid not projected to be 141, 149, or 157. Seems like we will be at least 4 deep with quality guys at each of these weights for the next several years. Would love to get a couple more guys that project at 195, 184, 174.

Looking at the HS classes of '15, '16 and '17, we've got enough to field a team:

25: Mejia (17), Wagner (16), Rathbun (16)
33: Renteria (17)
41: Turk (15)/Happel (16)
49: Happel (16)/Turk (15)
57: Kemerer (15)/Troy (17)
65: Marinelli (16)
74: Young (16)
84: Wilcke (15)
97: Holloway (15)
85: Bradley (effectively 15)

Yeah, would be nice to have another stud in the 74-84-97 range. Good news is we'll know what we've got with Paddock, Wilcke, Holloway, Stoll and maybe even Bradley by the end of the year and can recruit accordingly.

Great quote that he gave to Andy Hamilton...

“I love putting points up on the board,” he said. “That’s my No. 1 desire. I get a high from it. When I’m scoring, I feel on top of the world.

Seems like an exaggeration.

Plus, this kid is two years behind Kemerer.

Yet I agree the upper weights will be needed to finish out the class.

I agree I wonder if Kemerer or Troy have 149 in mind.

174-184 recruits aren't exactly overflowing in Iowa right now, but Max Lyons and Chase Schiltz should be on the radar.

So cal in the house! Troy looks kinda short for 157, eyeball test says he's likely been recruited to take over for Sorensen. Good get, he's at MLK HS now in Riverside. Not a wrestling powerhouse by any stretch. He was coached at San Marino by John Azevedo who mentored Mark Perry at Cal Poly. Love this kids style, real strong and explosive. Hawk fans will love him, he's exciting to watch.

Glad he is a Hawk. Andy Hamilton's article said ISU offered a full ride, so he really buys into the Iowa style.

Looked up Troy's results at CA state last year. As a soph, he had an impressive finish. He was ranked 8th in CA in the pre State rankings. At state championships, he lost in semi's to the eventual champ in O.T. 3-2.

Overall he went:
W (fall)
W (TF)
W (TF)
L (semi's) 3-2 SV
W (5-2 dec)
W (10-4 dec) - finishes 3rd in state at 152#

.... not too shabby for a soph, especially in this 1 class state

the official CA state rankings have not yet come out, but Troy is already #4 nationally on FLO, as OP stated.

CA is LOADED with talent. Nice to keep that pipeline going!

His weight is loaded this year as well. He's ranked 2nd I believe behind Wick from San Marino. There's another stud Thomas who transferred with his brother from Santiago to Calvary Chapel (Morgan Macintosh's HS) at that weight who is nationally ranked as well. These guys are going to go at it throughout the year, as they are in the same Section and possibly the same division. Troy's definitely going to have to earn a state title. I can't remember the last time Iowa had a wrestler from So Cal. I remember they had Billy Murphy who was a No Cal guy that didn't pan out, Justin Mejia is a No Cal guy and they had Willie Parks from Calvary Chapel (he never actually wrestled though, grades I think). I can't think of anyone else though, it'd be cool to kick off a new trend. This class is looking good already with Mejia, Renteria and Troy. We gotta add Lee and a big guy (184/197lber) and we should be set for quite a while.

So researched a bit and learned that Harlan Kistler is Luke's head coach at MLK High School. He gets to wrestle with Mark and Lindley as well. He projects himself as a 157 lber in college which could make things interesting in a couple years depending on where Kemmerer ends up. There's some great quotes in an article I read where he says, " I love putting points on the board, that's my no 1 desire. I get a high from it (that's a so cal thing) When I'm scoring, I feel on top of the world. When its just a 1-0 match or a 2-0, it's boring to me. I like the feeling of domination and beating on guys and putting pressure on guys. That's how Iowa wrestles. They push and they push and they go. They're taking shots and opening up their opponents. I'd say my style is an "Iowa" style." Yeah, he'll fit in just fine.
