Totally agree - the absence of our top 2 FBs early in the season really limited our running game ... particularly when facing extra hats in the box. It WILL matter to have them back.Don't overlook the importance of getting Plewa and Cox back at fullbacks. We missed Cox losing him right before the season last year. Plewa was his backup and he was hurt a lot last year also. Cox is not only a good Blocker, but he can catch the ball for a sneaky few yards. We also need additional experience pass blockers for CJB. Matt Nelson is tall and talented enough to help get better pressure on opposing quarterbacks.
I'm not an expert on Ferentz, but isn't a depth chart released BEFORE practice begins about as valuable as a depth chart released in January before the following football season? This chart means very little, if anything. It is for the media only.
OL and LB are IMO the main areas of concern. I think with most of the teams on the schedule, the LB's will be just fine. The OL worries me a lot but I really think CJB is a difference maker and his presence stretches the field enough to give him a chance.
Thought KF was quoted in presser as saying there would be a "different look" of some sort. Don't know what that means. I do suspect they intend to stretch the defense much, much more. With Smith and even MVB and athletic TE'S they should be able to. Thy just haven't really in the past. Throw in the freshmen that are supposed to have some wheels along with Scheel and then the returning guys, I think they have that ability.Agreed about CJB. I thought highly of Rudock, but CJB is better equipped to be able to make a play when the O-line doesn't do its job. I also hope our coaching staff is more willing to try to stretch the field more consistently to soften the defense and help our running game.
