New year health/fitness thread

Still lifting 4-5 times a week and getting my cardio in out on the trail a few times a week when it isn't brutally cold. Got 5.5 miles in this morning.

But I haven't had any booze since December 31st. And the effects are noticeable. I feel friggin great.

Last summer, we went on a 10 day southern Caribbean cruise. My daughter and I went and climbed a mountain in Antigua, to see an old fort. That about killed me. Felt embarrassed having to stop all the time because I was so out of shape. I’m 6 foot and weighed about 219. Changed my eating habits, doing intermittent fasting and cutting out all sugar. Lost 34 pounds and down to 185 now. I hadn’t been under 200 pounds since high school. Had a lot more muscle mass then though.

I do cardio on the treadmill every night. Like somebody else said, a steep incline at a 3.3 to 3.8 pace. I’d like to get down to 175ish. I’ll be 49 tomorrow, I don’t care anymore about lifting weights anymore.
Sounds like you have a good cardio plan. Regarding your comment about not caring anymore about lifting weights, I would urge you to re-think/re-visit that thought. Lifting free weights a few times a week helps with overall core strength, balance, and metabolism control.

Who’s still on track? I made it through dry January and decided to keep going dry…for a while anyway…up every weekday at 4:30. Haven’t missed a workout. Almost down to my pre-Thanksgiving weight. Feels like I am in the “zone” where making good nutritional decisions is easy. I want to stay there, thus no beers. How are ya’ll doing?

I’m up a couple pounds of lean mass, no real drop in fat. Percentage went down slightly

I gave up the really high rep/low weight workouts like you suggested. I think it is paying off. Time will tell. At 59 I am always at fear of injury, but I think I know my limits and am very careful. I do not lift heavy with my legs. Light weights, full range motion.

I’m still going. Will finally have some booze tomorrow though. Part of me is looking forward to it, but part of me wants to keep going booze free. It’s weird.

i took an explosive shit at work yesterday that led to me dropping 2 pounds between yesterday and today.

About 10 pounds down, and about 19 away from my target weight. Hoping to be there by Summer.

On a 35+ day streak of counting calories.

In other new years goals: I didn't go to target or order off amazon once during all of january.
