The New York Giants hired a Iowa assistant football coach on Monday.
According to reports from NFL Network's Mike Garafalo and The Athletic's Dan Duggan, the Giants are hiring Iowa running backs coach Ladell Betts for the same role with the franchise.






A nine-year NFL veteran, Betts joined the Hawkeyes in 2001 after two seasons as the head coach at Pine Crest School in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

During his NFL career, Betts rushed for 3,326 yards and 15 touchdowns as a member of the Washington Commanders and New Orleans Saints. He set a career-high with 1,154 yards and four touchdowns with Washington in 2006.

Under Betts, former Iowa running back Kaleb Johnson set a program record for total touchdowns and rushing touchdowns in a season. The former three-star prospect from Hamilton, Ohio, racked up 1,537 rushing yards, 188 receiving yards, 21 rushing touchdowns and two receiving touchdowns in 2024.

Always like to see a Hawk progress in their profession even though he will be missed.
