Some interesting stuff today.
First on the defensive side, they are preparing really three different quarterbacks. Asked Jestin Jacobs if this will be a three backer game and he said in some spots. Think it will depend on if they go with Andrew Marty, who came in last week. He's more of the runner of the three. They were all really impressed with Evan Hull, the RB this year. He's #26 and he's a good baHe ck, averaging 93 yards per game. Player to watch on their OL is Peter Skoronski. He's a sophomore and he's really good. They will run behind him a lot.
On the offensive side some interesting comments from Tyler Goodson. He talked about some of the guys playing tight. Maybe over-thinking things at times and that's leading to issues with consistency. We have seen that they can have a solid run game with some nice runs, even this past weekend, but the consistency isn't there. All the players said that the attitudes this week have been very good. They have flushed it and moved forward. Leadership has been good and as Linderbaum said today, if they had lost the first two and won the last six (like last year) no one would be complaining.
Speaking of Linderbaum, he said he feels like the OL is really close and they are doing a lot of good things up front. It's just some little things that they need to fix and he is confident that they will fix them this year. Listening to him and others it feels like the breaking the rock and keep chipping away at the rock to break it is a theme this week.
Spoke with Petras today and he said his shoulder was fine. NW has a new DC this year and we asked him if things were different there and he said some tweaks to what they do, but the defense looks a lot like it has in the past. He said they play a lot of cover four on the back end and the player to watch there is sophomore Brandon Joseph. Petras said Joseph is a a real playmaker.
