NFL Overtime Rule............ Sorry to bring it up again

Speaking of OT, Derrick Willies helped win in OT for the Browns. HUGE run-after-catch after a little dump pass to help Browns win it on last second FG.

Why should both teams get a chance to score?

And I don't know about you but there is nothing I love more than a good tie!

These tie games just seem to leave you wanting more. Great games that just, end. NFL needs to figure something out with the overtime.

the first Iowa Hawkeye football game I attended ended in a tie... it was against Wisconsin... and I remember somebody on the radio (probably Zabel) say it was like kissing your sister....
I don't have a sister... but I have to agree...
College football did a great thing when they did away with ties...
I'd like to see the NFL experiment with something other than what they are doing now.
other than the College model.... what might you recommend the NFL do?

how about a 5 minute overtime with no punts... no field goals... 3 timeouts... and if no score... the winner is determined by where the ball is on the field when time runs out.

Before the college rules were changed to eliminate ties Texas(which uses NCAA rules in HS) had a procedure where whoever advanced in the playoffs in the event of a tie (was only used in playoffs) advanced based on 1. First Downs 2. Total Yardage. When I officiated HS ball I got picked to be the stat guy at a playoff game in a town east of Houston. If you wanted to get selected to do it there was a one night class to understand the rules. There were actual forms to be filled out. The one time I did it it was weird. We had to hand the halftime stats to each coach. In the end it wasnt a tie and the stats didnt mean anything. The next year the ncaa ot rule was adopted and that was the end of the keeping of stats. I think i got paid 75 bucks to do it.

I would have hated that rule.

Thanks for sharing. ;)

NFL doesn’t want a college style OT. The only thing that does is pad stats and when a players gets extra chances they could collect bonuses. Now to keep games interesting, after the second OT, no FGs allowed?
