Nick and Chris Dardanes join Hawkeye Wrestling Club

That makes sense, but Tom and Terry are apparently on my side here, so I feel good about that. You are making good points, but we will have to agree to disagree.

Saw Nick Dardanes wrestle B.J. Futrell in exhibition last Friday night at Mike Poeta’s wrestling center in Libertyville. The Dardanes brothers are plenty “Hawkeye tough”. Night of wrestling was a fund raiser for the club. There were 7-8 exhibition matches with Dan Gable in one corner and David Taylor in the other corner. University of Iowa recruit, Jason Renteria was in one of headline matches, one tough kid; Hawkeye’s will love this kid. Renteria attends same school as Sammy Brooks (Oak Park-River Forest). Top high school kid in Illinois Austin O’Conner (145lbs. Saint Rita) looked fabulous against Hunter Grau. Iowa is pushing hard for O’Conner. Main Event was Jimmy Kennedy (David Taylor’s brother-in-law) vs Haislan Garcia (Canada olympian). Great night, great food (catered by Mike's father), great fun!

If a kid comes to either Dardanes asking for their advice on college, they will share their experiences at both MN and IA. They will not "recruit" against either program per say. With Renteria, Brooks and now Dardanes in the IA fold it certainly can't hurt recruiting OPRF. Hopefully LE3 can keep the road open to MN.

I don't see this as a long term situation with all the IA guys that will be graduating and hope to have senior level careers. Both parties will benefit for the time they spend together. Considering Chris tried several times to make 57, I would assume he competes at 61. He could be in the mix there.

Good news, I suppose. But these are guys that lost to Jeva and barely beat a young Corey Clark in their Senior season at Big Ten Tourny.
I totally get why they would want to come to HWC. They will for sure get better no doubt about that, but how much are they bringing to the table for us? We need to bring in an elite middle weight guy, an 86kg or 74kg guy.
Why aren't you saying the same things about Evans?

Renteria was VERY EXCITED to be cornered by Gable. So happy for the young man.

Evans is a former Hawkeye. He choose Iowa and gave five years here. I'll welcome him back with open arms anytime.
Also as important is the fact that he's at a weight above 65kg, and there's only one of them. Evans isn't an elite middle weight guy, but he's darn good and will be very competitive at the Senior level. I just hope he opens his offense up more in Freestyle. I like Evans upside in Free compared to Folk cause of the pushout rule and the shot clock. You force Evans to get moving, I think he can prove to score more often than not.
Fact that Evans has always been a Hawkeye carries a lot of weight as it would with any past Hawks.
So, great pick up!

Who won the Dardanes vs Futrell?

Any video of the matches?

that's a fair question...why didn't you say that Evans lost to Jeva and barely beat a young Corey Clark?
I guess that I could have said that Evans was dominated by Storley, Kokish, Brown, and Perry so what could he bring to HWC, but I'll leave the denigrating of wrestlers to Sandor.

Didn't Evans end his career with 3 straight wins over Storley?

Link to the matches. Futrell smoked Dardanes but they went chest to chest right off the bat and Dardanes ended up on his back. After that, not much really happened, but Dardanes didn't appear very close to scoring. Renteria pinned his dude. I hope the Hawks are all over O'Connor. He looks really good.

Edited to add a warning. They're wearing compression shirts and loose shorts. Don't freak out.

Haha, if anyone knows a thing about the denigration of wrestlers, it's the Gophers.
And, domination isn't the right word you're looking for in regards to Kokesh, Brown, and Perry losses.
Evans pinned Perry at NCAA and should have gone on to the finals. Everybody knows it.

Hey Jammenz,
Should I have "faith" that the Dardane boys will win world titles at 65 and 61 and in the process bring us Gable Stevenson and other elite recruits from Illinois and Minny?

One of my favorite Hawkeyes. Also one of the toughest. Had two NCAA tournaments marred by injuries, similar to DSJ.

Look, I get that we as fans are allowed to have opinions, even vociferous opinions, and especially diverse and contradictory opinions- about everything. But, if the Brands/HWC choose to invite/welcome the Dardanes bros into the room I have a hard time feeling anything but excitement. How is this not a positive development? I'm certain they didn't just say: "Hey, we need two more wrestlers, how about these two guys, cause you know, all the other best guys are happy/better where they're at, and we can't do any better."

Couldn't disagree more with this. It's a little nutty to expect anyone to be recruiting for his alma mater if he's gone elsewhere. If Nick and Chris have a positive experience in Iowa City and take a liking to the program, I wouldn't be at all surprised if their presence in the room were very positive for recruiting. They really wouldn't need to do or say anything; the mere fact that they came to Iowa to train says a lot to recruits all by itself. And as members of the HWC, they'll be getting paid. Who's to say their allegiance won't change?
This.

I see this as a positive overall. Both are good wrestlers who when they aren't cutting are studs. They'll be great workout partners and they're training is going to get better belonging to the HWC. And most importantly, it has to be seen that they came here, after wrestling for the Gophs, again, THEY CAME HERE. That says something, and recruits will take notice. These 2 additions just made the program stronger. Welcome Dardanes! Just get that Minnesota tattoo redone with Herky on there.
