I have always felt getting to the Nicknamed rounds was the standard for success. We haven't been to a Sweet 16 since '99 (Lost to Champ UConn), the Elite 8 since '87, or Final Four since '80. Getting to those rounds defines your season.
Additionally I find it interesting that while winning it all is the ultimate goal, we often judge programs merely by their final 4 appearances. ESPN team sites even list that as a team historical fact as to how many and last time there.
