NIL app allows you to pay the athlete you want. If athlete transfers, you get your money back

Any idea if/when IOWA wrestlers will be on this app?

Like I said; I like the concept a lot. Direct payment to whomever you want. Not sure what the cut is for the app developer, however.

You are wearing the Ruby Slippers. That is, you've always had the opportunity/right to do this. You just didn't know it. Why get some middleman involved who could screw up your wishes and do what middlemen do......take a cut?

Iowa wrestling NIL is through HWC correct?

I suppose there are other opportunities available to them but it's my understanding that their primary funding is not currently part of the swarm.

5 years ago any of us could have written checks to wrestlers and not gotten anyone or the UI in trouble? :)

I like the concept a lot. You're investing in someone who's invested in the program.

Sounds to me like an outstanding model for defrauding contributors. Start with people who obsess over college sports to the point they’ll throw money at students. Add a third party facilitator. And an app.

Voila!

Athletes get a free education, food, and boat loads of other benefits that John Q Student does not get.

If that isn't enough, sit on it Potsie
This perspective is slanted very much in the favor of the University. I think most people dislike the pay for play nature of NIL in its current form. You have to realize not all these student athletes were or are getting a free education. Many still would end up in debt. NIL gives them the ability to earn more through self promotion and outside camps without limitation. These are good things. The NCAA refused to make meaningful changes so here we are

Am I supposed to feel bad for them?

Nearly all college students have debt. They make a decision to attend and know the financial responsibility that comes with it.

Well, that's until the Obama Administration (I mean Biden) decides to hand out cash to erase the debt.

I pay for season tickets.

That is the only financial contribution the UI Athletics department will ever get from me.
I'll never financially support NIL.

Nope, never.

Maybe if I win the lottery (don't play) and become a multi multi millionaire.

I'll just settle for above average Hawkeye sports I guess.

It's not going to the UI Athletics department. I hope the product continues to be worth your season ticket contribution.

U must not know about politics here…

You don’t have to feel anyway about them. The point is other students don’t have limits placed on their ability to earn income because they have a scholarship to attend school.

This NIL chit is so phucking stupid.

I can't believe the individuals that thought this was a good idea, the powers above and fans.

"Student" athletes?

Ha!

The “powers that be” did NOT think it was a good idea. Quite the opposite. The courts decided for them. Not sure how you didn’t know that.

I firmly believe you can do whatever you want with your money, and I don’t know your individual financial situation. Therefore, I won’t shame you into supporting Iowa’s NIL. But Hawkeye sports will not be “above average” on a regular basis without above average NIL support.

It's been the same for your entire life.

But students don't get paid $50,000 for merely being on a roster.

Huge difference

I said I’m not in favor of pay to play. That’s not the intent of NIL. Previous to NIL student athletes that were on scholarship regardless of the amount had limitations placed on their ability to earn. This lifts limits on their ability to earn doing outside employment such as camps and other things. This is a good thing
