Bad press is bad press. I'll never subscribe to the OP's theory which I am sure was somewhat tonged in cheek
Fran can't even guide his squad into the Top 5 of a disappointment list.
His list of accolades for mediocrity just keeps expanding. EXTENSION!
Without having actually clicked the X link or read anything other than what is seen in the viewing window ......
I wonder if that list is based on more about how the fans are feeling about the favorite programs currently rather than based on just comparing the teams as to where they are now versus preseason expectations from the media.

rutgers belongs on any list of the biggest flops this year. They are dreadful despite 2 supposed top 10 draft picks.

If you're talking about NIL ROI, Indiana and Rutgers have to be 1 and 2, or 2 and 1 respectively. IU purportedly spend more than $5M on that roster. That's criminal insanity.
I also think Illinois has been a pretty big fail w/r/t return on NIL. They've been injured, sick ...whatever ....but rumor is they spent around $3M for what?....8th place? They've lost 4 HOME games by double digits. That's terrible. They won't be higher than a 7 seed. More likely a 9 or 10. lol

Fran promised us that this team would win a lot of games, and Mohawkeye assured everyone here that this team "will easily make the NCAA Tourney." There are many others, of course, but don't expect them to chime in now. lol
I'll be completely and perfectly honest.
I didn't have the highest hopes for them this season, but I never entertained the thought that they could end up very likely not even doing enough to make the conference tournament.
So, from that standpoint, they and Fran have been a disappointment.
