Clearly Nolf the favorite but I am curious to see what everyone's expectations are this afternoon.
I agree nolf is the clear favorite and would be surprised if it is anything less than a very comfortable decision by nolf based on what I saw when they first wrestled. That being said, that outcome wouldn't disappoint me. I think we can all be very excited about having kemerer for another 3 years. At this time, nolf is just on another level. No shame in losing to him. I like kemerer's chances of closing the gap in the coming seasons.
Nolf is too strong. IMO Kem is equal as far as wrestling skill, but he doesn't have the muscle.
Kem is outgunned BUT he is familiar with nolf from the past so I think he has as much of a chance as anyone. Not the pace either...Kem is a bolt action sniper rifle, accurate and deadly, but very measured. Nolf is a machine gun with almost unlimited rounds.
I think Kem is gutting it out right now doing what he has to do to win. I think Nolf majors him. Not many can keep that tempo and pac and it will be tough for Kemdawg to do it on a a gimpy leg. Short wrestled him well for two periods. Then I looked at the score again and it was 14-6 and I think Nolf ended up pinning him. I would like Kemerer's chances better at 149 as I think he could give Retherford a serious run for his money.
I feel Kem is as good of a chain-attacking wrestler as Nolf, he just doesn't use it as often. Not the pace either...Kem is a bolt action sniper rifle, accurate and deadly, but very measured. Nolf is a machine gun with almost unlimited rounds.
I think if this was likely, it would have happened this yearI was thinking about this last night...is it feasible for Kem to go to 149 next year and Sorenson to either 141 or 157?
I've seen several on here mention Kemerer at 149. I'm wondering why. Is he wrestling up a weight class? If so, why? Can he beat out Sorenson and moved up for the betterment of the team? Did he and Soerenson even wrestle off for the spot? Btw, I'm not so sure he'd fare any better against Retherford. Hell, I'm not so sure Nolf could beat Retherford to be honest with you.I think Kem is gutting it out right now doing what he has to do to win. I think Nolf majors him. I'd agree that Nolf is no lock to beat Retherford if they wrestled today. And the "old" Brandon Sorensen beats Kemerer pretty easily IMO (in typical low scoring Sorensen fashion but the outcome never in doubt).I've seen several on here mention Kemerer at 149. But does the OLD Sorensen beat the NEW Kemerer?I'd agree that Nolf is no lock to beat Retherford if they wrestled today. And the "old" Brandon Sorensen beats Kemerer pretty easily IMO (in typical low scoring Sorensen fashion but the outcome never in doubt).
Sorensen has the ability to beat anyone who weighs the same as he does and always has.But does the OLD Sorensen beat the NEW Kemerer?

Zain Retherford as a true freshman beat 2 time defending and eventual 4x NCAA Champion Logan Steiber.Zain is a very good wrestler but he is at a weak weight. Nolf will probably be the only guy to beat IMar. Nolf is the best wrestler on PSU's team. Zain can be solved...Collica and Sorensen almost proved that and let's face it, they are not offensive dynamos. At one point, Sorensen had Zain on his heels backing up. If you can get out from bottom, you can win. Don't...you lose. Nolf would eat Collica and Sorensen for breakfast. The only way to beat Nolf? Keep his pace for 7 minutes and out wrestle him. The latter part can be done...not so sure the former.
Now as to Kem and Sorensen...I think Kem has the offensive skills to take Zain down plus the stamina. Big question is, could Kem get off bottom?

Yup...I recall that but then he also lost in the NCAAs to the kid from Edinboro and Streibler two more times. IMar may go down with just one loss...matter of fact, Nolf's two might be it and it could be to a four time champ. Nolf has bonused every match this season most ending in TF or Pin. The two he hasn't? Mike Kemerer. Just saying, Nolf has physical tools Zain does not...length...both are strong and fast. So does Kemerer. Sorensen wrestled a great match against Zain (let's face it, last year's was close in B1G because he turtled against him) because he went on the attack and didn't sit around while letting Zain pick him apart and ride him like a pony. Zain has a slower pace then Nolf which works to Kemdawg's favor. Holy bejeezus Nolf's pace and long arms are seven minutes in hell.
I have said this multiple times on this board. Nolf's ability to shoot from a long distance and still get in deep or to shoot across the body but still be able to get to the corner is amazing. And Chief, to your point, length. Pair that with quickness and strength and he is freaking scary and damn near impossible to defend with the pace he keeps.
But another year of getting stronger and Kem could be the guy that beats him. We can hope right!![]()
There was one point during Nolf's match against Kem yesterday, when Nolf shot a double leg from way out and seemed to barely get his hands around Kem's legs (his hands were a foot away from each other), Kem did a sprawl that would have worked against anyone else, and Nolf slowly pulled Kem in and took him down. The takedown indicated a remarkable strength I did not know Nolf had. It wasn't a Jordan Burroughs knock you on your a$$-type of double leg. But it was still really impressive.

I'm in the camp of the Bull is at 157 next year and Kem keeps eating and over 165. IMO Kem has the frame and the quickness to translate weight and dominate. Let Sorenson finish out 149 and hopefully Sammy Sasso can commit and be counted on early. I just don't see any of the 141 guys being effective at 149. I am very curios to see what Murin will become at 141
