Not a good night for ISU

Of course they don't- all those schools are in the same conference. If Iowa State were to go 9-3 or so and we are a playoff contender come December then that helps as a quality OT win and not "they had to go to OT to beat 5-7 Iowa State". I think the bad scenario would be if Oklahoma blows the doors off ISU next week after we played them close because I remember that was used against us, at least in talking points, when we were in contention with OU for a playoff spot in '15.
I don't think how ISU does the rest of this year matters that much. Iowa can take care of itself by beating the good teams on its schedule. This year is different than 2015 because the schedule is much harder. OK has its own issues with a close win against Baylor. Watching the ISU-TX game, I really think ISU came out believing too much of the hype about their offense. ISU did not look focused and ready to play.
Does anyone else think we have too many Iowa State threads right now?
4 Things:
1) Why does ISU keep screwing with their colors - their logo - their uniforms? Do they think that is somehow going to help them win? They seem more concerned with marketing then anything else.
2) I think after last night we can put it to bed for ANYONE that doesn't think the Iowa game is ISU's super bowl. They play us like they are the Green Bay Packers and last night they look like Warburg. (I apologize to Wartburg)
3) This morning on Sirius (The first team) they were wondering why Campbell would have left Toledo because right now they are having more success then ISU and he might have screwed up his career (could have gotten a better job if he waited and now he might be SOL)
4) Park acts like a punk.

It seems to me they think they're rockstars after *almost* beating Iowa.

Again, you're thinking short term. Even then, SoS this year would not be an issue given our conference schedule. We had one year with a ultra weak conference schedule that has people freaked out...even though we were still on the verge of going to the playoff.
You need to look at the big picture:
First, we're only a legitimate playoff contender about once a decade at the most.
Second, we rarely have so easy a schedule that one non-con win vs a 4 win team compared to that being a win over an 8 win team matters. As noted above, ISU would need a decade or more of solid performance for a victory over them to garner any respect when considering a playoff berth for Iowa.
Third, the stars have to align for us to get a playoff spot with one loss simply because we're not a name brand program.
Finally, if ISU becomes a solid program, our long term chances of becoming a playoff contender drop considerably because we would lose some midwest prospects to them (at a minimum).
We absolutely do not want ISU to become a solid program if you care about the long term viability of Iowa. If you only care about this year and assume we're going to win out (including the CCG...this is a long shot), then hoping they do well this year might be the right thing.
Did you watch the game? I was pretty much ready to go in the 2nd quarter. That game was boring.
Wrong. The state of Iowa has a limited amount of amount of D1 talent. We need the clowns to lose so any decent self respecting kids in Iowa pick the Hawks. ISU needs to be a dumpster fire and relegated to the MAC.. That's what's in the best interests of Hawkeye Football,
What an embarrassing night for ISU during a showcase game on ESPN. Park looked like a douche the entire night, Campbell looked clueless, OC only gave the ball to Montgomery three times in the second half in a close game, and the new logo was the worst thing ever. Wow!!!

Well a CLOSE loss anyway. I doubt we got much cred from last years game. Just sayin........

Time will tell. The press certainly speaks well of him. But the press speaks well of Mediocre Mike in Nebraska. Seems they most often say kind words about new hires. And they love young guys.
Personally I think he's been good to this point. Anyone who has managed people has experienced poor behavior of subordinates, so I won't come down on him for the dumb ass move of Park last night. Frankly I think Campbell appeared to keep things calm and avoided a national TV incident. He appears to be calm in the heat and I admire that of leaders.
I'm not defending him Rocky Mountain and honestly I hope you are correct.

Parks looks (and acts) like he is walking to the ring for a pro wrestling spoof.
He's kinda goofy and I'm guessing he'll be seen as a free spirit. But based on what we saw last nite...I'm guessing he's not revered by his teammates.
When his time at ISU is over, he likely goes back to procuring a meth lab in NASCAR country.

Was I the only one thinking when they talked about then showed park's baby momma at the game with his 2 month year old son thinking why the hell did you bring a 2 month old to a college football game. Great parenting...

ISU is laughable. All about the Iowa game. Stadium was empty and silent for a conference game against Texas. I think Texas gave up 51 against a mid to bottom feeder Big 10 team at home. And ISU put up 7 at home on ESPN?! Called Super Bowl versus Iowa. Embarrassing. Please get them to the MAC so we can reschedule. And tired of hearing about a Thursday night game. 95 percent of the season ticket fans are in Story or Polk County. Win or lose last night that was sad and pathetic by ISU. I am actually shocked since ISU made a big deal of Iowa not having a sellout. I figured ISU would be packed and not selling tickets for 5 dollars at kick with still an empty stadium. Little brother.

He was hot garbage last night, mostly because Texas got in his head with all of their pressure. I remember seeing a stat at one point where he was 1/11 with 25 yards and 2 picks on longer throws. I wasn't surprised because the guy didn't make one long throw with his feet set all night. Conversely, on the 2nd Texas TD, their QB got destroyed, but set his feet and dropped one in the bucket. Funny how that works out. Opposing DCs will need about 15 minutes to prep against Park each week.
OTOH, I'd be furious with my OC if I was ISU. I think another poster said Montgomery touched the ball 3 times in the 2nd half? I think that's just as big of a reason they lost as any. That guy is a serious talent. Throw a screen or something.

This is why I laughed when some had to inflate isu after the Hawks struggled with them. 'clones didn't suddenly make the leap from terrible to formidable. No more so than the wyoming game, a single game, revealed the "best Iowa D in years".
