the first half of the Maryland game. If you recall, Iowa scored twice early against what the announcers suggested was an undersized defense. After that, Iowa went way conservative with two TE's and one WR. This is an offense of the 80's and is easily stopped unless you have overwhelming strength at each position. Maryland put a CB on our WR and rest of the DB's (with good speed and quickness) helped stopp the run and were getting to Jake very quickly when he tried to pass to a TE. I don't remember a ball going to our WR.

Maryland used a multiple offense much like NW's with great success. Half of the time, our LB's and DB's had no idea where the ball even was!

I can only hope that KF spreads the offense more this year and uses the pro-style two TE's and a FB formation much less of the time. Opposing DC's know how to stop this formation in their sleep.

Did we really "go conservative" with different plays and schemes or did the same things just stop working? Perhaps due to MD adjustments?

It was the opposite of conservative. We were gashing them on the ground and then just stopped for some reason and decided to get cute with the passing game. Maryland had one of the worst rushing defenses in the country last year.

Of course, they also had one of the worst rushing offenses, but still gashed us for over 200 on the ground.

Right wasn't Wiesman just gashing them then we just stopped running the ball? I think early third we had all the momentum then just stopped using what worked? That one for sure was on GD.

Pretty much the same 'ol story for Iowa when it gets any lead ... Go into conservative mode and simply hope to not lose the game. Time and time we have seen this with Kirk. He gets a lead over a team and then he takes the foot off the peddle. That philosophy now costs him dearly. In the past we had Norm's defense to shut teams down to allow us to hold on for the win. Not so much anymore.

We ran the ball with the wind and decided to try throwing the ball into the wind. With a qb that struggled any time he threw into the wind. Perplexing game coaching.
