They're also playing a terrible team. Two of the three you mentioned are true freshmen.
They just look lost.
They're also playing a terrible team.
They should be able to cover better than they've shown.
Gervase is bad with little hope for improvement.
How much is poor talent, poor coaching, or just poor performance?Yeah, Nebraska is bad. No doubt.
They should be able to cover better, but like I said they look lost as far as coverage responsibilities are concerned. Some of that is youth and some of that is probably coaching.
I don't dispute Gervase is not good at this level, but I think he's getting the most out of his talent. Iowa needs to recruit better talent. It's that simple. Not Gervase's fault.
How much is poor talent, poor coaching, or just poor performance?
Some of each?
More of one vs. the others?
I guess in all fairness, Nebraska only had one solid drive. Defending from the 15 is tough for any team.Gervase is decent against the run but he lacks the lateral quickness to defend against the pass. It's not his fault we are down three safeties right now. Nebraska may have a poor record but their receivers and passing game are very solid. They have veteran playmakers on the outside. Not much different than Purdue who has a poor record but has a very solid front seven on defense. Just because you have a poor record doesn't mean you don't have parts of your team that are pretty good. Look at our defense for most of the year.
