I understand why he decided to transfer but I’m wondering if he regrets the decision. He would definitely be starting at iowa and we would likely have 2-3 more wins. He transferred to Xavier and doesn’t even start. Ugh what could have been with him and Weezey back.

Anything is possible, but I kinda doubt it. He might not be starting but he's still playing 23 minutes per game. He leads the team in scoring and he's second in rebounds.

Too many on here get a little too wrapped up in “starting”. Jack is Xavier’s leading scorer and plays about 23 minutes a game on average. No question he would have been the starting center this year at Iowa but would have probably only averaged only another minute or two per game from what he is getting at Xavier. He was under appreciated by many on here.

Yup. Iowa's starting center averages fewer minutes per game than Jack does so...

Xavier is ranked, and probably a comparable team to us. It’s not like he left to play for some bottom feeder. Guessing he’s ok with his decision. Glad it’s working out for him. We should probably just quit talking about these what-if’s when it comes to players decisions to stay or leave the program

I have no idea what Jack is thinking but I don't see any reason why he'd be second guessing his decision from a b-ball perspective. He's a major factor on a team that has at least as good, and probably better, shot at the NCAA tourney and actually winning once they get there.

I am sure all the Xavier fans are:

* bitching about who should start and why Jack is not starting

* saying their head coach is clueless

Or, is that just our fans who do this? ;)

Jack is basically getting starter minutes on a good team, and he seemed to be jinxed at Iowa. He was well liked on the team, but he seems just fine and is a little closer to home.

Lots of unfortunate memories at Iowa for Nunge. On the surface I understand his transfer.
I still wonder if there was not something else going on that led to Nunge and CJ leaving. I know of the talk about Kentucky interfering and Nunge wanting to be closer to home, but I believe there is more to it.

Keegan better than Joe W. and that is not a knock on Joe. Nunge would be a huge help in a number of ways.

What's with their stupid coaches? Your leading scorer and best player sitting on the bench? Are you related to that Iowa coach whom everyone on this board wants fired along with all the coaching staff?
How can there be that many crappy coaches who are head coaches. They could all get better coaches from guys on this board just waiting to be discovered 😇

Deplorable dog was EXTREMELY critical of Nunge on here. And he was not the only one.
Jack had a lot of setbacks, so did CJ, but both were good players when healthy. Had they stayed and were healthy, they both should have started this year but probably wouldn't have with JBo returning (though CJ should have). Not a fan of Rebraca per say, but he has been better of late, and it's not his fault he's not a Big Ten center. He seems to be improving in my eyes anyway.

A healthy Nunge is a different type of player than Rebraca, and he's just better. It is what it is. Wish Jack well.

Not sure why you quoted my post but okay.

Riding the bench? They play a 3 guard lineup. Nunge is tied with another forward at 23mpg for 4th highest minutes on the team. The guy he's tied with has seen his minutes cut by 8 this year with Nunge's arrival.

Watch the Michigan game last year when Nunge got injured. He collapses to the ground, holding his knee in pain. After the game is stopped, Fran stands on the sidelines, looks at the situation from afar, then calls over the team to huddle, presumably to diagram plays while Nunge is being tended to.

Later in the game, Connor gets injured. Falls to the ground in pain. After the game is stopped, Fran hustles onto the court to be with Connor and see what's going on. Stays out there with him the whole time while the medical staff tends to him.

Very different reactions from Fran for those 2 injuries. Always wondered if Nunge noticed this too, and transferred bc he was pissed.

Perhaps there was more to Fran's response that the cameras didn't capture.

Maybe they are. Fans everywhere can be critical of coaching. Jack is definitely one of the best forwards on that team. At the same time he also plays as many or more minutes as any forward on their team. Kris is definitely one of the best 2 forwards on the Iowa team. Iowa fans can't say that their best forwards are getting the most minutes so maybe you have a point. Maybe it is just Iowa fans.

By what I read he's still a 6th man so doesn't that qualify at a bench warmer to start the games?
Must be terrible coaching like at Iowa? 😇

I don’t miss Nunge one single bit

Not a popular opinion on here but not one single bit!

Dude drove me crazy! We’re soft enough without him. He’d make us even softer.

I would argue that the Xavier coach finds a way to get his best players the most minutes regardless of whether they start or not. Must be really good in game coaching.

Why do you think the coaching is terrible at Iowa?

I tend to agree with this, not quite as strongly, but agree nonetheless. Nunge was a project that couldn’t stay on the court at Iowa. Sure, it’d be nice to have a project pay off down the road, but if Iowa can’t overcome the transfer of a so so project, the program has issues with talent.

Do people even look at the numbers before making comments like this? He's been snakebit for sure but Nunge was an excellent player for the Hawks when healthy last year. How does the most productive rebounder and 2nd most productive shot blocker on the team from last year make them softer exactly?

That soft player was also 3rd in scoring on a per 40 basis and his PER was 3rd on the team. His numbers this year would make that soft player the number one rebounder, the number 2 shot blocker, the number 2 scorer and the number 3 in terms of PER. Who needs him?

That “soft” Nunge averaged WAY more rebounds and blocked shots per minutes played than Garza.

He won’t because as much as some would like to think there is more gossip to the story there isn’t. It’s the that the lure of Kentucky took CJ and nunge going closer to home after his fathers passing. Can always point to smaller reasons on maybe issues had with Fran or program but in the end those were two main tipping points that led to the transfers. Reason why Fran came out spoke glowingly of Jack after his decision and only a press release on CJ. After he said he was getting healthy and ready workouts and then Fran had media presser to find out 2-3 days after that CJ came in and told Fran he wanted to keep his options open and was entering the portal only for Fran to tell him if that’s the case you can cross Iowa off the list because Fran knew what was going on and saw writing on the wall he was heading to Kentucky with his family connections etc.

I get your point but you ignore the fact that the second example was his son. Give Fran a break for acting like a concerned dad. Put yourself in his shoes and say you would have acted differently.

Nunge would have been our starting center, and likely would have taken more minutes than PR currently is at the 5, upsetting you more about Kris's playing time though.
