Nunge situation

Watch the Michigan game last year when Nunge got injured. He collapses to the ground, holding his knee in pain. After the game is stopped, Fran stands on the sidelines, looks at the situation from afar, then calls over the team to huddle, presumably to diagram plays while Nunge is being tended to.

Later in the game, Connor gets injured. Falls to the ground in pain. After the game is stopped, Fran hustles onto the court to be with Connor and see what's going on. Stays out there with him the whole time while the medical staff tends to him.

Very different reactions from Fran for those 2 injuries. Always wondered if Nunge noticed this too, and transferred bc he was pissed.

Perhaps there was more to Fran's response that the cameras didn't capture.
I don't remember what Fran did after each situation, but here is an article from the first time he tore his acl with a good picture for you.

Here is an article from the second one, with an even better picture:

I understand why he decided to transfer but I’m wondering if he regrets the decision. He would definitely be starting at iowa and we would likely have 2-3 more wins. He transferred to Xavier and doesn’t even start. Ugh what could have been with him and Weezey back.

Iowa has 3 centers. F him

Let’s try not to live in a vacuum and pine for guys who have left before their 4/5 years are up. This happens to all teams. Ifs and buts etc.

Huh. Looks like he started tonight and is averaging around 30 minutes the last 3 games. Good for him.

I get your point but you ignore the fact that the second example was his son. Give Fran a break for acting like a concerned dad. Put yourself in his shoes and say you would have acted differently.
You're kidding right? If this did occur, the issue isn't that he shouldn't be running out to see if his son was ok. Of course a father would do that. Shouldn't he be acting like a concerned coach and treating Nunge with the same level of concern? I think that's what the poster was getting at.

The guy wasn't even correct. See my links.

Jack on fire in the 2nd half sparking a Xavier 29-2 run vs Creighton.
He has hit 4 three pointers in a row to turn a 17 point halftime deficit into a ten point lead.
CU did not score single bucket for first 9 minutes of 2nd half.
Announcers crediting Jack with changing the game with 14 points while CU was scoreless.
What a different team Iowa would be with Jack pulling opposing centers out to the arc giving Keegan room to operate.

When you invest 4 scholarship years in a guy and then he leaves and has his best season and first healthy season elsewhere, that does hurt. Garza kept Nunge off the court + injuries, so it is not Fran's fault Nunge didn't star at Iowa. Whether there were dynamics behind the transfer other than fresh start and closer to home, who knows.

Between Portal transfer outs and NBA early exits, it is hard for Iowa as a development program to stay above 0.500. Fran and Barta will need to adjust to the changing landscape to embrace Portal and NIL...will they? Doubtful.

You are correct about the portal and NBA early exits, but in Jacks case he earned his BA degree from Iowa in 4 years. The extra year that he's using now is because of Covid. I don't begrudge him at all for leaving, he came to Iowa with Garza and they left at the same time.
