I've always wondered why this is never brought into the conversation when coming up with ideas like this. Have they never heard of plate tectonics? That seems like it would be some pretty important details to building a fixed structure across the span.
According to the Googles it’s 3471 miles from JFK to Heathrow and Musk wants to do it in 54 minutes. By my calculations that’s 3857mph, or slightly faster than Mach 5.

While the concept is certainly far-fetched, it does make you think what this world could be like if such a transportation solution existed. We've only mastered air travel in the last half century, so just imagine what the next 100 years may look like.
