Observations

Great win, I will take any win at Camp Randy.

Canzeri was solid, generally kept the chains moving mostly held onto ball (whew!) and brought some quickness that we lacked past couple of years.....

O Line run blocking was pretty darn good against an excellent defensive front that knew we would run the hell out of the ball....

O line pass blocking was dodgy - need to give CJ some more time - their DE was amazing.

CJ was OK, our lack of playmakers was magnified today and I thought he could have used his legs on a few more plays.

Why could we not call more safe short passes - I thought we executed a few in the first half, though never to Canzeri IIRC. I would have loved to somehow gotten ball into Jermenic Smith's hands. I also cannot figure out why we could not complete a few more passes to Hillyer.

Jake Duzey will add another element when he returns. (Obviously we missed Tevaun)

Wish we would call some more run or screen plays in more of the spread formation (get some more space for JC)

Defense was beast mode. what else can you say. Shame we could not pull further away with a few more scores. King playing with TONS of confidence, PI call was very questionable.

Would like to see some sets with both Smith's on field at same time.

Vandeberg is tough as nails.

I was surprised Duzey didn't play more..maybe not 100% yet?

I think maybe j Smith and Beathard didn't have their timing down on a couple deep balls..if that comes then having two Smiths in at the same time could be interesting.

Pretty much agree all around. The PI on King was a little ticky-tack, but it was correct. However, if they're going to call that, they have to call it on Caputo in the end zone on 4th down. As long as they're consistent, I'm OK with it, but if they swallow the whistle on Caputo, they need to do the same on King's play.

No doubt it wasn't a great game for CJ, but the wind, Wisconsin's front 7, and the absence of his starting WR, TE, and LT had a lot to do with it. He had very little time to throw most of the day and his receivers were pretty much blanketed most of the time. Add in the wind, and you have the recipe for a tough day for any QB -- even a very good one like CJ.

Speaking of field position, our kicking game was big but largely unnoticed by the TV announcers, at least. Sure, we could have used the short FG Marshall missed, but his kickoffs were consistently deep and Kidd had some very nice punts out of our end of the field that kept Wisconsin's offense at bay. He drilled a few from around our end zone that helped dig us out of a hole and gave the D a chance to make stops. Kidd deserves some serious props, IMO. A weak punt or two, and Wisconsin's starting drives just a first down or two from our red zone in the second half.

Very impressed but he kicking game this year. It will come up big later in the B1G season.

Our OL play was attrocious. The tackles were schooled. Jake didn't have much of a chance to show his stuff, as he was constantly under pressure and our 2 star caliber WRs were not getting any form of separation.

Our DL played amazingly well. Those guys were beasts. We have a once a decade corner in King, who is a man among boys. The D definitely bailed us out today.

Did Koehn let the 57 yrd field goal go to his head? Who misses an extra point and a chip shot field goal in back to back games after nailing a clutch 57 yarder? Hard to believe.

Canzeri was the MVP. That guy's stats are mind blowing given the line's poor play. He was going up against a solid DL and put up a better game than Wiesmann did in any game in 2014 or 2013. He is a legit RB.

Canzeri is really seeing the holes and running with great vision. He gets it. He is making nice cuts into daylight, but not slow cuts and dancing, he is still decisive once he sees something.

Daniels is not getting much more than what is there. Runs into his own lineman and the pile too often.

Vandeberg has been proving all the doubters very wrong, come get your crow all of you that had totally written him off as slow and untalented.

Hopefully, this will be a game that CJ can learn from. He didn't play bad, it was just tough going, defensive battle. Need to keep him healthy, obviously! Might want to run him a little more if teams are bringing pressure, try to get through a seam and make them pay for bringing the backers.

Defense was the MVP of this one for sure.

My concern before the game was our ability to pass block at tackle and pressure with 4 rushers. Some problems on offense, some good defense. Tight game. Good guys pull out a close road W.

Still a long ways to go. Purdue gave MSU a scare. NW ran over MN. Indiana gave Ohio state a fight. There's still a lot of FB to be played.

New Kirk showed some 4th down stones again. 5-0 looks pretty good.
